🦘 Meet Victoria: The Little Kangaroo Who Refused to Give Up! 🥺❤️

Life in the wild can be tough, but sometimes all it takes is a little bit of help and a whole lot of willpower to beat the odds.

Victoria came to us after a heartbreaking accident—she got caught on a fence, which severely damaged the tendons in her legs. The situation was critical: she couldn’t stand up, let alone hop like a kangaroo should.

We bandaged her up, gave her the medical care she needed, and began an intensive, daily rehabilitation journey. There were moments of doubt, but Victoria proved to us that she is a true fighter.

And today? Today, our hearts are completely melting... ✨

SHE JUST TOOK HER VERY FIRST STEPS!!! 😍🐾

📸 Swipe through the photos to see how sweet she is, and DO NOT miss the video at the end—we promise it’ll bring a tear to your eye!

We are so incredibly proud of this brave little girl, and we’ll keep cheering her on until she’s hopping around like that fence was just a distant memory.

Show Victoria some love and wish her luck in the comments below! 👇💚

Support our work: Donate today so we can continue to rescue, rehabilitate, and give these beautiful animals a second chance at life ✨

Benalla Golf Club claims there is no KILL.

They may have thought they could quietly get away with it (this year) - at least that plan was foiled.

Let's hope the many 100s of emails, media publicity and public shaming has some effect on some key decision makers at the BGC so they dump this kill plan.

If they want the kangaroo advocates to shut up, then BGC needs to come out clearly and publicly announce the plan is dead.

What what it will take to change the public narrative on kangaroos to stop seeing them as a pest, instead seeing them as a unique, iconic animal, one of Australia's great cultural assets? Kangaroos have lived here successfully for 25 million years, we have been here about 250 years. Show some respect.

Photo: this is about 1/2 of the people who showed up, the rest had left before this p*k. The "honk/abuse" ratio was awesome, at about 50:1 in favour of the kangaroos.

Nurse to expectant mother says "we provide Kangaroo Care ..."

Wait, what?

"Kangaroo Care" is a method used in human birthing process (in humane hospitals) where a mother is "allowed" to hold her newborn baby in direct, continuous skin-to-skin contact against her bare chest.

The "innovation" was inspired by how kangaroos keep their underdeveloped young safe in a pouch, it stabilises the baby's heart rate, regulates body temperature, promotes breastfeeding, and boosts emotional bonding.

Well, thanks Skippy :-) (but we should have known that already).

This is Freddy the wombat, and his story is the perfect example of why we do what we do. 🤎

Freddy came to us as a tiny, helpless joey after his mother was shot. For months, we poured our hearts into raising him, watching him grow stronger and more independent every single day, until the bittersweet moment arrived: he was ready to be released back into the wild. 🌿

But life in the wild is tough. About a month or two after his release, Freddy made his way back to us. He was weak and needed help.

And that is the true beauty of this place. Our mission isn’t just about releasing animals and saying goodbye; it’s about creating a safe haven. They know they are always welcome back. They remember the love and safety they found here, and they know exactly where to go when they need a helping hand. 🥺✨

Right now, Freddy is safely recovering with us. We are treating him and giving him all the time he needs. As soon as he is healthy and strong again, he will head back out to the wild where he belongs.

Knowing we can be their safety net is everything. 🌱🩹

A smile that beats all odds. ❤️ This is Jackie. 👅

Looking at her cheeky expression today, it’s hard to believe how incredibly tough her start to life was. Jackie was found in a heartbreaking situation, a true survivor who fought for every breath.

Her recovery has been a long and difficult road, but thanks to the dedicated team at Kangaloola and supporters like you, she is here, healthy, and sticking her tongue out at the camera.

It’s $5 Wednesday (ok that was yesterday!) and Jackie is the perfect reminder of why we do this. Every donation gives another animal a second chance, just like she got.

What can your $5 do?
🌾 Nourishing formula for our current recovering residents.
🩺 Critical medication for those fighting for life.
🌳 Ensuring a safe, peaceful space for healing.

Let's honor Jackie's strength today. Every little bit counts. 🦘

Tangles, the Ibis

This poor bird was tangled up in fishing line and limping badly.
We captured the bird with an air powered net launcher.
After a vet assessment, went into care for a couple weeks with Staghorn Wildlife Shelter.

The 1st video shows the net capture.

The 2nd video shows what happened at release, the bird was immediately met by a friend who gave a lot of attention.

Good outcome. It was a lot of work and multiple attempts.

Arlo, a Ringtail Possum

"Let me see if I can get any more out of this..." (*)
After feeding, he was exploring on the desk and found the teat!

At rescue, he was found alone in a KFC restaurant.
After about 90 days in care, today was release day.
A beautiful spot, with his own little nestbox, and a full tummy ... and ready and rearin' to go.

It's a bitter sweet day when you put them back.

(*) the photo was from a couple months back, he was small then.

Wombats are not "out to get you"

Just ride with great awareness and avoid dusk/dawn, and super careful at night in hilly regions. That's your responsibility as a road user.

Just want to remind everyone that Wombats (and other animals) were never asked if they wanted roads through the place they live, therefore it is our responsibility to take appropriate caution recognising at the same time that nothing and no-one is perfect.

Also they are not "lurking" around the bend. That language is loaded with intent, whereas the animals are just wanting to move through their world.

The wombat looks harmless in the scrub. But on the road, it’s a barricade on legs. Lurking around the bend. Ready to take you down. You never know what’s wa...

Life is a little easier today...
.. and (surprise!) we have an app that shows how the new off grid power system is performing. Even on cloudy days the generator is not required, so we save fuel as well. The new system from KDEC Electrical & Solar is absolutely amazing.

We have received gift donations which almost 100% cover our costs, so ... thank you again and again and again.

More animal stories coming soon.
