The Wyongah Progress Association is deeply saddened to share the passing of one of our long‑standing and valued members, Ted Burgess, on 31 May 2026.

Ted had been part of the WPA since the late 1980s and contributed enormously during that time, serving in several committee roles, including as Treasurer from 1995 to 2004. Ted was always enthusiastic and ready to help with fundraising events and community celebrations. He encouraged others to get involved and took great pride in our wonderful community assets — the Wyongah Progress Hall and the tennis court.

Ted was also an active member of the Wyongah Landcare group, helping to clean up the Prawn Beach area and begin the Tuggerawong Pathway. Many photos show Ted clearing weeds, planting trees, and caring for the natural spaces that meant so much to him.

As one of the last original committee members, Ted’s passing is felt deeply by the current WPA committee. We want to express our sincere gratitude for all the hard work and dedication he showed to his local area and community.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Ted’s family and loved ones — his legacy will not be forgotten.

We have some special trees in the grassed area at the back of the hall, apparently.
Our Arborist, Chris from Douglas Treecraft came to remove a dead section from one of the trees for safety in our property and the neighbours. He advised the type of tree is a Swamp Mahogany which doesnt sound very special does it?
However he also explained that this type of tree is also known as ‘Eucalyptus Robusta’ and its leaves are loved by koalas. 🥰 🐨
Nice to know we have preferred food source or koalas on the property and as the trees like waterlogged soil (as their name suggests) there are no doubt more of them in the local area.
