Thanks to those who joined us on Sunday for the 2nd circle 🩷 Our discussion on 'overwhelm' was big and juicy. Here are some of the key things that came out of the discussion:
- Overwhelm can be a different experience for women vs men, as 'women's work' can often involve complex and varied tasks that don't allow the ability to shut off, such as being the primary child-carer and running the household. Often this is juggled alongside paid work as well!
- Women's hormonal shifts can influence how and when we feel overwhelmed, but societal awareness does not recognise or make space for this as an additional challenge.
- Though resilience in the face of overwhelming challenge is an important personal attribute, pushing past exhaustion or ignoring coping levels can lead to burnout.
- A big part of managing overwhelm is taking time out to rest and recover.
- Feeling overwhelmed is not a sign of weakness, but an acknowledgement of limits reached.
- In times of overwhelming emotion, seek the tiny crack of hope to move into as the first small step out of the paralysis.
- To do this, acceptance of the emotion is important. It is through acceptance that that little crack of light can appear.
Through our meaningful discussion this month, we generated next months topic. This is a topic that has come up in both circles so far as a key ingredient in using any strategy to its full potential - balance ⚖️
