Bayside Forum is proud to be part of the Forum sponsorship of the annual National Council of Women Qld (NCWQ) Bursary and last weekend Bayside members attended the presentation at UQ with other Forum members. Photo shows Anna, Elaine and Di back row, Pat, Rosie (President) and Ronda. It was very inspiring hearing about all the great careers all awardees are aiming towards - 36 in total.
Bayside Forum is kicking off a new 6 months session in July to the theme of "History Through the Ages". So much information available for great speeches during the session covering "Interviewing a Figure From History", "Heroes Past & Present", "Great Changes in History", "In Another Life" and many more. More details in next post shortly.

Bayside Forum members were treated to a double delight last week with the official visit of our State President Rosie on Wednesday and Forum Fusion get-together on Saturday. That was a chance for 5 Bayside members to join in, the topic being Humour in the House. Our Helen (in the middle) gave a twist to her speech with Humour in what house - hen house? out house? dog house? Very entertaining and that's what is important to any audience. When presenting, settle your nerves by focusing on your audience, not on yourself. Well done Helen.
If you want to learn the finer points of speaking to an audience, come along to Bayside's next meeting on 8 April at Wynnum Library (2nd floor) at 7pm. It is important to notify us if you wish to come along. For further information, contact [email protected].

Bayside members are in for a treat this Wednesday when the State President, Rosie Arnold, comes for her official visit. This mace is a symbol of the office of State President and is passed on to each succeeding President every 2 years. Looking forward to welcoming you to Bayside on 25 March at 7pm at Wynnum Library.
If you would like to join members for a packed program including the main speech "Becoming a Force for the Greater Good", Liars Club - who is telling the truth (?) and a tutorial on "Giving your audience a memorable experience", contact [email protected] before noon on Wednesday.

At Forum, a speech title has many different interpretations. Anna's next one is "Brush Strokes" so could this be about a painting, maybe an artist's style, Banksy's street art or even a home renovation? Come along to Bayside's next meeting this Wed 11 March in Wynnum Library meeting room. For this meeting ONLY, THE START TIME IS 7.15PM.
You will need to advise early if you wish to join members on Wed by emailing [email protected].

“Acting” is not all about being on the stage or merely learning our lines. It’s about projecting our voice, breathing, speaking clearly and using expression. And it’s about getting into our character with improvisation, impromptu situations and hot seating.

Come and join in the fun activities in Bayside Forum's mini-workshop where we can all enhance our speaking and acting skills on Wednesday, 25 Feb at 7pm at the Wynnum Library, 145 Florence St, Wynnum, access via the lift – please contact [email protected] prior to the meeting.

The meeting just past was all about "a life in colour". The audience loved learning about the great artist Margaret Olley, why purple is so special and the real meaning behind Forum's colours of purple, green and white. Learning how to put colour into your life and language was a real treat! Bayside also welcomed new member Rhonda and we look forward to her being a vibrant part of Bayside Forum.
Visitors are very welcome to join us at meetings. To find out more, contact [email protected].

"A Life in Colour" – This is the topic for our key speaker at Bayside Forum’s meeting on February 11 at the Wynnum Library, starting at 7pm. Colour is the inspiration and will be an interesting title. Members learn how to gain confidence by speaking well in the group and use their skills at a range of opportunities, be it speaking at a meeting or expressing their opinions. Why not come along and listen, and see if you/your life or career could benefit from learning the finer points with us at Forum. If you wish to attend, please contact [email protected] for details on how to join us in the library after hours.

Among the many quotes used in confident, empowering and self-challenging speeches is this one from Eleanor Roosevelt:
“Do one thing every day that scares you.”

Eleanor Roosevelt was an American political figure, diplomat and activist. The longest-serving First Lady of the United States, she was a powerful force in her own right and featured in the film 'Remarkable Women of the 20th Century'.

Forum was founded 85 years ago to empower women, by helping them build the confidence to work in a man’s world during wartime.

Today, Forum empowers both women and men with confident, effective communication - a skill Eleanor herself exemplified and was widely respected for.

Public speaking was one of the greatest fears in Eleanor’s era, and remarkably, it remains one of the greatest fears today.

Forum can help you overcome that fear!

Bayside Forum meets at the Wynnum Library on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 7pm. Our next meeting is Wednesday 28 January.

Visitors are always welcome.
