Off to the zoo today with three little ones. Two of which have been in care with inexperienced people and are very sick. It has taken all my efforts to keep them alive. I cannot emphasize enough that joeys are extremely difficult to care for. If you want to learn to care for these amazing animals please contact your closest wildlife group, become licenced and get training. As a carer of over 25 years myself i can honestly say that im still learning every day because these animals are so very complex. It takes years to become experienced. Its a lifestyle that you must be prepared for. Feeding animals every 3 to 4 hours, constant cleaning ,washing as hygiene is paramount. If you havent the time or the patience its not for you. Thank you Tina Laurence for this meme. It hopefully gets the point across.cheers Tan x

So sad to hear about Junes passing;she was an amazing person, and I had the privilege of working alongside her at Kanyana for over 20 years.
Whether you were sweeping leaves or working in the hospital ,you were made to feel part of the family, and very valued. Your shift would start with a cuppa around June and Lloyd’s kitchen bench, where June would handover the from the previous shift .
Junes, compassion and caring for our Wildlife now lives on at the new Kanyana.
Rest now June, we will all continue your amazing legacy.
Condolences to Fluer, Suzie and all Junes family.

The tinniest patient this year , even too small to register on the scales. This little Honey Eater had fallen out of the nest and was found by a neighbour yesterday. Seems to be going well though.

🌿 Kangaroos Don’t Just Live on the Land — They Help Keep It Alive 🦘

Kangaroos have been part of Australia for millions of years, evolving with the land and playing an essential role in keeping our ecosystems healthy. Far from “ruining the land,” kangaroos actually support the environment in ways many people don’t realise.

Here’s how kangaroos help our ecosystems:

🦘 Gentle Grazers
Their soft grazing keeps grasses trimmed without ripping plants out by the roots. This reduces wildfire fuel loads and helps native plants regenerate naturally.

🦘 Soft Footprints
With padded feet and a hopping gait, kangaroos don’t compact the soil the way hard-hoofed livestock do. This protects fragile topsoil, preserves groundcover, and prevents erosion.

🦘 Seed Spreaders
As they feed and move across the landscape, kangaroos help disperse native seeds — supporting plant diversity and healthy bush regeneration.

🦘 Part of Nature’s Balance
Predators, native grasses, and kangaroos are all interconnected. Removing kangaroos disrupts this natural balance, affecting everything from soil health to plant communities.

🦘 Indicators of Environmental Health
Healthy kangaroo populations often reflect healthy ecosystems. When they struggle, it’s usually because the environment is under stress — not because they are damaging it.

Kangaroos belong to this country.
They are not the problem — they are part of the solution.

Australia’s landscapes have thrived with kangaroos for millions of years. It’s time we recognise their role as caretakers of the land and protect the species that help keep our ecosystems alive. 🌱💚

Please share the truth!

Life with an agile wallaby. Little Aggies been with us since she was 300 g, as you can see we have to be on our toes with her now, she is outside mostly but on very hot days and evenings she comes in. She’s doing really well. Just a bit more work for us.

Our 2 baby pink cockatoos are doing so well. Both being hand raised by Sue from 10 days old.
