"I'm finally going to find family."

Lynne Augustakis always wanted to know her mother's people. Through Link-Up (Qld), new connections guided her healing journey to her mother's country, where she found belonging in her family history. Lynn shares part of her story in the video below.

Yesterday, Link-Up (Qld) CEO Patricia Thompson AM and Board Director Aunty Faye Carr were invited to attend the Strong Women Talking Mother’s Day High Tea event. It was great to hear about the inspiring work of Strong Women Talking, a movement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who are passionate about breaking the cycle of violence. Through significant research undertaken by Link-Up (Qld), more than 80 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and girls connected to the former Aboriginal Girls Home, West End have been identified, with their names now publicly available to help reconnect families. Located at what is now Orleigh Park in West End, the Home operated from 1899 to 1906 under legislation that enabled the removal and control of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Girls and young women were brought to Brisbane to be trained as domestic servants for white households, often far from their families and communities.
If you believe you may be a descendant of one of the women identified, we encourage you to complete the form at: https://link-upqld.org.au/aboriginalgirlshomewestend
This information can help Link-Up (Qld) continue to identify family and community connections and support the healing journeys of Stolen Generations survivors and descendants.

Free community event - all welcome!
We're delighted to announce that our guest speaker for this year's Sorry Day Breakfast at West End is Brett Nutley (Mununjali and Butchulla), accompanied by Aunty Lorraine Woolley.
Brett is a Stolen Generations survivor with a strong background in community and government, having worked as a caseworker at Link-Up (Qld) and as a Parliamentary Indigenous Liaison Officer at the Queensland Parliament, and he is currently the Indigenous Partnerships and Program Coordinator at Redland City Council. Brett has a personal connection to the Aboriginal Girls Home, West End, where his great grandmother, Lucy Wheeler, was admitted under the Act in 1903 at around 15 years of age.
Each year, we gather at the site of the former Home to honour the strength of Stolen Generations survivors and descendants and show our support their ongoing healing.
