Sunshine Welfare And Remedial Association was founded in 1975 by twin sisters Dorothy and Moyia O'Brien, originally located at Roma Street. The "Pink Twins" were amongst the first occupational therapists in Australia. They have enabled thousands of adults with disabilities to engage with the social and economic co
mmunity and their legacy continues today. We provide choices of skills development and supports for clients to achieve their own goals and aspirations. Our curriculum provides a wide range of options to suit all abilities. Amongst the skills provided include independent living, domestic skills, baking, self-catering, hospitality, metal recycling, horticulture, physical activity, developing social interaction, friendships, and contributing to the community. Developing these skills are acquired through key learning areas; Sunshine Cafe, Sunshine Bakery, Community Access, Recycling Enterprise, Horticulture, Communication Skills, Creative & Performing Arts, Learning Skills for Independence, and Education and Employment Training.
