Rest in Peace Amber Rahurahu
Since its foundation in late 2020, more than 300 young Indigenous Australians, have been involved in the Racing Together programme, designed to introduce them to motorsport and hopefully provide a pathway to a career in the sport. Of that 300, a very select group has been selected to be members of the team – to learn skills that will help them on that pathway.
At our first Open Day, 15-year-old Amber Rahurahu was chosen as one of our ten founding members. Amber wanted to “break the cycle” of unemployment that had blighted many of our First Nations people and was an enthusiastic member of our inaugural team.
Sadly, external circumstances intervened and Amber left our team in 2022.
We were devastated to learn that a year ago, Amber passed away. We can’t help questioning what we, as a team, could have done better. What could we have done to avoid the loss of this lovely young person, who showed so much potential?
Rest in Peace Amber. We will always remember the good times.
