12/10/24 Tuesday was a very special day as one of our long time members, Jill Likiss arranged for us to have our meeting there, in her beautiful Cosy & neat home. Definitely, family orientated and we all felt that love lived here. Jill has her handsome Arthur at her side, her children are not far away either: Jill opened her heart & home to all our Woodburn & District Garden Club, members. We can’t thank Jill &n Arthur enough, for their hospitality & kindness. We learnt that Jill loves Doilies & even made her bedspread doona cover all covered with doilies. Beautiful doilies, all handmade with ‘love’.
Many of our members contributed to the lunch, with cakes & slices which added to the different Salads, cold meats like ham, salami and corned beef . Cheeses & crackers, quiches. You name, it all that party food was on the table, no one went home hungry.
Most of the members brought plants they had potted up for sale on the trading table, which Teresa manages. The money made from the sales are directed back into the Club treasury. Our plant sales operate, on the basis of our generous WDGC members bringing in the plants they potted & grew from cuttings and seed sown, to be sold to members, for our Clubs benefit.

WDGC members meet at Woodburn to Car Pool. Driving to local flower farms in the area. Fields of Flowers at Bungawalbin was our first stop. Interesting couple who owned the flower farm. We asked many questions & were interested to receive answers pertaining to the lives of a happy couple, growing flowers for sale at the local shops and markets.
Perfect weather made our garden club outing a joy to be outdoors in the sunshine.
Firstly an absolute delight was stopping for morning tea at Heike’s Swiss gourmet food. On the quiet street opposite our beautiful river we have a Swiss cafe serving “freshly made” mouth watering desserts & lunches. Coraki have a Swiss cafe who have better than best gourmet pastry cooks🇨🇭in the northern rivers & beyond. If you want to spoil yourself, your friends and your loved ones take them to Heike’s Cafe, Coraki.
Lunch was at the Sherwood Hotel a favourite, with a menu to to please everyone. I ordered Poltena chips. Our Northern Rivers have many delightful treasures, besides our tree covered countryside. We are surrounded by Mother Nature Many very old trees for shade, nothing better than exploring our northern rivers.

From the Department of Primary Industries

Mel from the Department of Primary Industries gave a riveting presentation on Fire Ants in Australia and how they affect us.
We can keep a look out for nests that are flattish patches of soil or mounds up to 49cm high, with no obvious entrance holes.
What we can do , when we find them. They are very small 2-6mm with different sized ants in each nest.

The United States is the largest producer of nuclear power, while France has the largest share of electricity generated by nuclear power, at about 70%.

France has the greatest share of nuclear power in total electricity generation of any country worldwide.

More than 1,000 lithium-ion battery fires

7.30 asked each state and territory fire service how many lithium-ion battery fires they've responded to since January 2023. The total was more than 1,000 across the jurisdictions.
"We're in a time of energy transition and our predecessors had to deal with piped natural gas coming into properties, they had to deal with the introduction of petrol-powered engines and fuel storage and electricity being introduced in the properties," Mr Fewtrell said.

Lithium-ion batteries have been responsible for more than 1,000 fires during the past year in Australia. Industry and government want regulation and action.
