As another year comes to an end, and its the 10th month since the February Mega Flood (now considered Australia's largest natural disaster in modern times) we show our gratitude for your support and assistance.
We are lucky to be in the house as many across the valley are still either living in caravans or temporary accomodation. We still have a temporary kitchen but have replaced all the whitewoods and appliances. Start on the new kitchen and laundry should be early 2023, the kitchen its being moved to the northern side of the house (once the lounge room) and the laundry from the ground level to the first level. Materials being used are as flood resistant as you can get for a reasonable price. Our choice of cypress pine down stairs in 2012 was a good choice, though submerged for at least a week the walls did not swell or warp.
In the last few months thanks to family, friends and local contractors we have achieved much. We got the house lifted about 30cm on the north side, pillars on the north side replaced, front verandah has new floor, front balcony rebuilt, new guttering, windows and doors fixed as well as new ceiling and fans down stairs.
We have brought a new cabin to replace the old cabin, she will be pulled down and much of the material recycled in the next 4 to 6 months. This will happen as part of the job to move dirt about to get better drainage away from the house and the dirt moved to form a mound for the cabin.
We have worked hard to get the back paddock ready for campers, picking up lots of rubbish, tyers, furniture and wood that floated in. Bookings have been good with four camps sites up and running and campers coming and going since before Christmas.
If anyone reading this is after a free camp site on the north coast please just ask, we would love to have you stay.
So we wish you a great 2023, thank you for your support and look forward to sharing more stories in the coming months.
