Play spot the critter!

This series of photos shows how helpful technology can be in wildlife rescue.

First photo shows the view from the naked eye.

Second photo shows the view using a thermal monocular (the big round white blob is the critter).

Third photo taken with a 65x zoom camera that connects to our phone using Bluetooth so we can send high res footage to vets/experts when necessary (and monitoring mange changes in wombats).

The thermal monocular, super zoom camera, along with wildlife trail cameras are key tools we use regularly!

This is a great demonstration of how to make a ringtail drey and is also a relatively cheap and simple option.

Important to note is not to make the entrance hole too big (you want it to be only just big enough for the ringtail to fit)

Using paperbark rather than plastic (as some other designs have) is a much better option (more breathable, natural, and still improves waterproofing and less likely to overheat and create waste issues).

Who can guess what today’s rescue was for?

A case we helped out with earlier this week. And pleased to report that we checked up on ‘Shane’ today and he’s doing well and happy to be with his mob. Video in the comments.

Don’t you hate it when the person in front of you doesn’t hold the door open? Rude!!

We’ve been quiet on the socials lately but still busy in the field with two population treatments on the go, and recently finished the monitoring phase of a double release of Milly & John John - we’ll post more about that later when time permits.

Pictured below though are a mum and bub duo named Katie & Kiddo that are part of one of the population treatments, and who have provided a bit of a challenge of making the right design of a burrow flap to ensure both were getting treated for mange (more on that later too!).

But thought this pic from our trail cam was a bit too cute not to share with you all today. They both have matching big tall Spock ears!

Katie & Kiddo - two wombats part of a mange population treatment, and it would appear that Katie’s ‘spock’ like ears have been inherited by little Kiddo. 🐾 💚 🐾

We have two population treatments on the go at the moment with 23 burrow flaps in place between them.

This is wombat Katie who has now joined the blue bum brigade while we treat her mange.

This short video demonstrates the capability of a net launcher which is used for tricky flight capable bird rescues (eg fishing line and netting entanglements).

It’s a valuable piece of equipment that needs to be protected from damage and also requires C02 canisters to launch the net.

We currently have a fundraiser to assist with the purchase of these items.
