ILLEGAL HUNTING IN THE WONNANGATTA VALLEY
The Mansfield Courier has reported that Heyfield and Mansfield police, along with the Game Management Authority did an operation in the Wonnangatta Valley over several days late in May. The main aim was to target illegal hunters using thermal gear, spotlights and hunting during illegal hours of the night. Around 50 vehicles were checked for game licences, illegal guns, drugs and alcohol.
Six men were caught in different areas spotlighting and drinking, they were also using thermal gear and one group had silencers, Their guns and gear were confiscated. A large group who were camped near Hearn’s Spur also had unregistered guns seized and a driver had his licence suspended for drink driving on Zeka Spur. Two others were fined for having dogs in the National Park and driving off the track.
