The Breast Cancer Illawarra Fundraiser committee was founded in mid-2017 by six local Illawarra ladies who at that stage were either Breast Cancer survivors or current Breast Cancer patients. Through their respective journeys, the value and benefit of continued research and development in the area of Breast Cancer therapeutics became abundantly apparent, and so the idea of a fundraiser was born. he Inaugural 2018 Pink Glitz & Glamour Ball will be held at Novotel Northbeach on the 3rd of March, 2018, with all proceeds going to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF)
The National Breast Cancer Foundation is the only national body that funds breast cancer research, with all funds being entirely raised by the Australian Public. With one in eight women being diagnosed with Breast Cancer in their lifetime, this is a disease that affects a large number of Australians: not just those suffering the disease, but also their partners, parents, children and friends. However, Breast Cancer is a complicated disease, and there are many different types of tumours which are grouped under this umbrella. Researchers working from funds raised by NBCF are continuing to develop their understanding of how these different subtypes work and proliferate, and therefore new and better drugs which can halt the growth of tumours.
