Sometimes Spirit teaches through the smallest interruption.
I was at the Three Sisters, looking out over the Grose Valley, drinking my coffee, when a spinebill suddenly caught my attention.
And in that moment, something landed.
At first, I was aware of the loudest sound. The obvious sound. The cockatoo. The thing my mind could easily grab onto.
But as I softened, breathed, and allowed my awareness to widen, more began to rise up around me.
The king parrot.
The currawong.
The breeze.
The stream flowing deep in the valley below.
None of it suddenly appeared.
It had been there all along.
I had simply expanded enough to become aware of it.
And this is so much like Spirit.
We often think connection means reaching, trying, pushing or searching harder.
But often it is the opposite.
It is softening.
Widening.
Listening differently.
Letting the subtle rise to meet us.
Spirit is not always the loudest sound in the room.
Sometimes it is the quiet stream beneath everything else, waiting for us to become still enough to notice.
This little spinebill felt like the “snag” that pulled my awareness open and helped me understand something I have been living, teaching and integrating in a deeper way.
Connection is not always about going somewhere else.
Sometimes it is about becoming aware of what is already here.
