What do you think of Eddie Mabo’s self portrait? It’s from the AIATSIS website where there's a fantastic write up about him and his amazing life, including his artistic side. Hence the self portrait.

https://aiatsis.gov.au/explore/eddie-koiki-mabo

It also captures the moment that started his fight for land ownership. It’s incredible to imagine the sheer force Eddie Koiko Mabo was fighting against. It’s told by his work colleagues.

"...we were having lunch one day when Koiki was just speaking about his land back on Mer, or Murray Island. Henry and I realised that in his mind he thought he owned that land, so we sort of glanced at each other, and then had the difficult responsibility of telling him that he didn't own that land, and that it was Crown land. Koiki was surprised, shocked... he said and I remember him saying, 'No way, it's not theirs, it’s ours!"

Reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.

The 2026 National Reconciliation Week theme 'All In' reminds us that reconciliation and advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights isn’t a passive activity, and it is not solely the responsibility of First Nations people.

Let's be 'All In' for reconciliation. Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. It is about building respectful relationships, increasing understanding, and taking action, individually and collectively.

Six studio apartments for young people coming soon to Palmerston, thanks to a partnership between Anglicare NT and Venture Housing Company.

This initiative offers more than just a place to stay. Our Intensive Youth Accommodation Support Service will work alongside residents to build confidence and develop the skills needed to transition to independent living.

"The new apartments offer a safe environment for young people to begin their housing journey while building skills that support confidence, wellbeing and long-term success," said Director Youth and Family Services, Jem Wood.

National Sorry Day honours the strength and resilience of Stolen Generations survivors, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families.

It also marks the tabling of the Bringing Them Home report in 1997, which set out 83 recommendations to address the ongoing impacts of these policies. Nearly three decades later, only a small number have been fully implemented.

This year’s theme, From Sorry to Action, calls on all of us to move beyond acknowledgement towards meaningful, sustained change. Saying sorry reflects compassion; acting delivers justice.

We encourage you to mark National Sorry Day on 26 May, and to stand with us to ensure this day is part of an ongoing commitment to truth-telling and healing.

Want to help build the Top End’s eating disorder workforce?

Right Care Right Place (RCRP) are offering a limited number of grants to support GPs, dietitians and mental health professionals in primary care to become credentialed eating disorders clinicians.

As part of the Top End’s stepped system of care for eating disorders, RCRP aims to improve access to appropriate support by increasing the number and diversity of local clinicians able to provide evidence-based treatment.

If you’re working in the greater Darwin region primary care sector and are interested in becoming a credentialled eating disorder clinician, contact [email protected] for more information.

The government's long-awaited formal response to the Peta Murphy gambling inquiry simply doesn't go far enough.

"We hope the government doesn’t see this as a final answer. We need the federal government to implement all 31 recommendations from the Murphy report," Craig Kelly.

Anglicare NT CEO Craig Kelly spoke on ABC Darwin radio last week to highlight what he says is a piecemeal response: https://www.anglicare-nt.org.au/news/gambling-reforms-dont-go-far-enough/
