Did you know that Windsor’s iconic Eildon Hill, as well as Bartley’s Hill in Ascot, were once part of land purchased by Nehemiah Bartley?
A true adventurer and entrepreneur, Bartley arrived in Australia in 1849, travelled the world, tried his hand at goldfields, banking, and overland sheep drives and eventually invested heavily in Brisbane’s hilly northern suburbs.
He purchased land in 1859 which included Eildon Hill, enchanted by its sweeping views and resemblance to the Eildon Hills of Scotland. From hosting picnics for Judge Lutwyche to developing land along Kedron Brook, Bartley shaped the foundations of our community.
Though eccentric (famous for his pith helmet and love of rocks) he left a legacy through his writings: Australian Pioneers and Reminiscences and Opals and Agates, offering priceless insights into Queensland and NSW’s early days.

The Lutwyche Post Office has seen many changes over the years.

First established in 1874, it served a growing community as Lutwyche emerged beyond the boundaries of Brisbane Town and formed its own identity.

After closing in 1901, the post office reopened in 1918, reflecting renewed growth in the suburb, boosted by the expansion of Lutwyche Road and the arrival of the tramline just a few years earlier.

From a modest standalone building along the main road (corner with Chalk St.) to its current place within the local shopping centre, the Lutwyche Post Office has continually adapted to serve its community proving it truly has stood the test of time.

Today, on ANZAC Day, we pause to remember and honour the men and women from Windsor and surrounding communities who have served our nation in times of war, conflict, and peacekeeping.

From the shores of Gallipoli to more recent missions across the world, their courage, resilience, and sacrifice form an enduring part of our shared history. Many of these individuals were not just names on a roll of honour, but neighbours, friends, and family members whose stories are woven into the fabric of our local community.

We reflect with gratitude on those who gave their lives, and we acknowledge all who have served past and present. Their legacy lives on in the freedoms we enjoy and the values we hold dear.
Lest we forget.

Chambers under construction? Not quite… 👀

If you’ve passed by recently and spotted the scaffolding, you might be wondering what’s going on!

Back in January, during one of those wild stormy evenings, a large branch caught in the heavy winds thrashed the side of the building, taking out one of the two cement Celtic crosses above the front entrance. The unlucky one didn’t stand a chance!

The good news? It’s now been carefully and expertly restored, sitting proudly back in its rightful place. Even better, the troublesome branch has been removed to prevent any repeat incidents.

We’re on the home stretch now, with the scaffolding set to come down very soon -just in time for everyone to enjoy the Chambers looking their best again for ANZAC Day. ✨
