Extra milk never goes to waste. 🥛

The number of friends visiting us changes from day to day. Most weeks, we use every drop of the 100L of milk Maleny Dairies donates to us.

But sometimes, we have a little left over.

Rather than letting it go unused, Teneriffe Lions Club introduced us to New Farm Neighbourhood Centre. They run a barista program for their service users, and we now pass on any leftover unopened milk to them.

We have a wonderful partnership with Maleny Dairies, and we’re so grateful for their ongoing support. It helps us serve our friends every morning and, now and then, helps another local service too.

Michael from Maleny Dairies said, “We are more than happy for any excess milk to be donated to help another organisation.”

To make the delivery even sweeter, we also shared some delicious hot chocolate mix donated to us by Providore & Co.

Miranda, the Coordinator of New Farm Neighbourhood Centre said, “The milk is divine, and the chocolate will keep us going for a year.”

Thanks to Teneriffe Lions Club for making the introduction, Miranda for organising, and Maleny Dairies and Providore & Co for helping us share a little extra with another local service. 💙

There are so many ways to support Coffee Brigade, and Brisbane Fire Safety Management is a great example of that. 💙

Recently, the team serviced our fire extinguishers and fire blankets, helping ensure our HQ is up to date and compliant.

They also recommended adding fire extinguishers to our outreach vans and helped supply them, making sure our team is equipped both on the road and at HQ.

Here’s Darrell, a Coffee Brigade volunteer, showing off one of the new fire extinguishers. 👋

Thank you for looking after Coffee Brigade, Brisbane Fire Safety Management.

We’re part of Grill'd Local Matters this August, and we’d love your support.

Every token added to our jar at 📍 Grill’d Emporium, 1000 Ann St, determines how funding is shared between this month’s local community groups.

It’s a simple (and tasty) way to support what we do, and we really appreciate everyone who takes a moment to support Coffee Brigade.

Meet Cathy, Operations and Community Manager at Coffee Brigade.

With over 16 years of experience at Origin Energy and a long history of volunteering, Cathy brings a strong understanding of how people contribute best when systems support them well.

Her role is all about creating an environment where showing up feels easy, and ensuring everything behind each shift is clear, organised, and well supported.

“I want the volunteers and people who donate food and goods to us to know how much we appreciate them. I want people to know that all the hard work does add joy to this world”

Who’s stepped through the Coffee Brigade HQ doors recently? ☕️

Between van shifts and sandwich shifts, mornings are early and full in Windsor.

Individuals, teams, organisations, friends and family join us every day, whether they’re making sandwiches, pouring a warm drink or sharing a chat with our friends.

We welcomed Jamie McErvale and the team from Ausenco again, who joined us for their monthly shift. In the last shift, all but one of the team had volunteered with us before; the newest member said she was thrilled Ausenco offered this kind of hands-on volunteering, and felt it was a real benefit of working there. They even brought their kids along, who happily joined in.

The Bligh Tanner team are Coffee Brigade Friday regulars, reliable, fun and efficient every time.

The team recently shared how much they love giving back to the community through their shifts.

Serve The City Brisbane keeps consistently booking out their Coffee Brigade shifts; their volunteer community shows up again and again. They also joined us for our recent Art of Community event, and we’re so grateful for their ongoing support and all the enthusiasm they bring.

If you’re interested in getting involved, comment VOLUNTEER, and we’ll send you more information, or head to https://coffeebrigade.org.au/volunteer-1.

One thing we wish more people knew? Just how much fun we have on our sandwich shifts. 🥪☕️

On their most recent volunteering shift, the SportsPlus Physiotherapy team prepped sandwiches and brought in a whopping amount of pantry donations they'd been collecting for us.

While our morning sandwich shifts are how we're able to share fresh sandwiches each morning, these pantry items mean our friends can take items with them for the rest of the day.

Thank you, SportsPlus Physiotherapy! Your time, care and donations make a real difference.

Want to join a shift like this? Comment volunteer, and we'll send information your way.

Have you heard of Ferno? Well, our friends sure have ☕️

Ferno Australia supports emergency, rescue and safety services across Australia, and recently their team reached out to donate 350 reusable coffee cups to Coffee Brigade.

We recently served over 5,000 hot drinks in a single month, and these cups will help reduce our use of disposable cups while continuing to provide warm coffee, Milo and tea each morning to our friends, who’ve received them warmly.

Thank you, Ferno, for thinking of Coffee Brigade and supporting the work we do every day.

Coffee catch-ups and creative connections ☕️

Last week, Cathy took the Coffee Brigade van to Footprints Community’s In/Visible event, serving coffee and muffins while spending time with the women, partners and community members who attended.

The In/Visible research exhibition showcased the creative work, voices and stories of older women experiencing housing insecurity and homelessness across Queensland. To create the exhibition, researchers from QUT’s Design Lab and Centre for Justice spent time with women across Brisbane, Mackay and the Sunshine Coast, helping share their experiences through art.

One piece was a co-created snakes and ladders board game showing what helps create stability (“ladders”) and the life events that can disrupt housing security (“snakes”). It was a powerful reminder that circumstances outside someone’s control can have a significant impact, and that the path back to secure housing is not always straightforward.

Another theme woven throughout the artwork was Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold — a reminder that when something is rebuilt, it is not simply restored, but carries new strength, beauty and meaning.

Cathy also caught up with Sonia from OneBridge, our health partners who generously provide nurses to accompany the van and help us offer additional health support to our friends.

Through our partnership with Footprints Community and St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland, we deliver our women’s-only service twice a month, supporting women experiencing homelessness or hardship.

We’re grateful to be part of a community that listens, learns and comes together. 💙
