Earlier this year while the Rangers were cut off from Mithaka Country due to flooding, they paid a week-long visit to The University of Queensland for some hands on archaeology and cultural heritage learning. Here are Rangers Zac and Seth looking at specimens in the Zooarchaeology lab.

It’s been a wet winter in Mithaka Country this year, which has meant a lot of pivoting for Ranger work during what is usually the busy field work months.

Fencing on the new block just outside of Windorah was completed this week. This site will become the new storage and operations hub for MAC ranger and field activities 👩‍🏭🧑‍🌾👨‍🔧

The main administrative office will, however, remain in town.

This listing means better protections for nationally significant sites on Mithaka Country for many generations to come, while also ensuring practical day to day activities continue.

“The Mithaka cultural landscape tells the story of some of Australia’s earliest manufacturing and trade,” [Minister Murray] Watt said.

“It provides fascinating insight into village life on an important trade route, and holds an ongoing, meaningful cultural connection to the Mithaka People.”
