Blessed by some amazing weather, 1st Willoughby embarked last weekend on its 2026 Group Camp at Glenworth Valley Wilderness Adventures.

Youth members aged from 5 to 17 enjoyed an action packed weekend of non-stop activities, exploring everything that our amazing location had to offer., and the camp food was the best ever!

We dodged the storm on Saturday night and had an awesome campfire with lots of singing and performing.

Thank you to our leader team and parent helpers for making 2026 Group Camp an amazing success !!

1st Willoughby Scout Group hit the rapids! What an epic day we had on Sunday at the Penrith Whitewater Stadium! With the weather being absolutely perfect and sunny, our brave Scouts took on the thrilling man made rapids in a truly memorable adventure. They didn't just have fun, they also learned the basics of whitewater rafting, including essential emergency procedures. In addition, they got to witness some Aussie Olympian Canoeists in action as well!

Huge thanks to the leaders, staff for a safe and unforgettable experience.

We’ve just wrapped up an incredible Regional Cub Camp this weekend — over 400 Cubs came together for three days of pure fun and adventure! 🏕️🎯

Our group had 8 Cubs joining forces with 1st Northbridge and 2nd/3rd Lindfield to form Unit 4, and together we tackled everything from rock climbing, flying fox, laser tag, scavenger hunt, and damper cooking, to campfire sing-alongs and archery! 🎯🔥 It was such a blast — heaps of laughter, teamwork, and great memories! 😄💚

Stepping into the spring activity program, 2 leaders and a Venturer from 1st Willoughby joined the Sydney North Region Rockcraft team for a caving weekend at Bungonia National Park.

Led by our expert region guides, we explored numerous caves over the weekend, marvelling at the hidden world that extends deep underground into the limestone.

Quickly coming to terms with some technical caving terminology -- such as “You want me to go through where?” and “Don’t eat the bat guano” -- the teams climbed, crawled, squirmed, scrambled, and rapelled through many classic formations that have been hewn out of the rock over the millennia. Navigating several aptly named highlights -- such as the “Hairy Traverse”, “Kidney Squeeze”, and “Dragons Teeth” -- participants gained new appreciation for the dimensions of the human body, gravity, and the unforgiving nature of solid rock.

After an exhilarating weekend of comradery, teamwork, and adventure, the teams headed back to Sydney battered and bruised, yet victorious after another great weekend caving. Thank you to all the guides for a super weekend!

Caving trips are run twice per year by the Sydney North Region Rockcraft Team, and are open to Venturers and leaders who have completed their abseiling qualifications.

Making the most of some beautiful spring weather, 1st Willoughby Scouts headed off on their first bushwalk of the season – exploring the Grand Canyon Track in the Blue Mountains.

Descending down into the canyon, passing some amazing rock formations, the spring sun was soon replaced by the cool dappled shade of the rainforest below.

Reaching the bottom, the Scouts spent some time exploring the depths of the canyon itself, marvelling at the power and beauty of nature, and its deep course carved through the sandstone over the millennia.

After stopping for lunch, the group started on the long journey back up to the top, enjoying some breathtaking views of the escarpment from Evans Lookout.
