The Williamstown Country Fire Service provides an essential fire prevention and mitigation service to the local community by responding to emergencies where life and property are affected. The brigade responds to approximately 120 incidents each year, these range from structure fires, rural fires, vehicle fires, vehicle accidents, trees down, search and rescues. If you’re visiting South Para Reservoir Reserve over the next 2 days, you may notice smoke visible within the site during the afternoon.

We are carrying out a prescribed burn at the reserve between 9am and 6pm on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 June.

Flames and smoke may be visible within the burn area for several days.

Access to the reservoir reserve, including all walking trails, will remain open as usual, with the site currently open to visitors between 7.30am and 5pm.

🚁 Behind the Scenes with Aerial Firefighting
Tonight, members from Williamstown CFS and Lyndoch CFS were warmly welcomed to Barossa Helicopters for an up‑close look and walk‑through of one of the firefighting aircraft that supports our crews throughout the Fire Danger Season.It was a fantastic opportunity to gain greater insight into aerial firefighting operations, the challenges pilots face, and the vital information they rely on from ground crews to assist with fire suppression and containment.A massive thank you to Pilot Richard and Aerotech Australia for taking the time to host us, answer questions, and share their valuable aerial perspective in support of our volunteers. 👏🔥

Tonight as the sun sets and we put our kids to bed, sit down for five minutes and think, no matter our troubles, large or small, thousands of men and women have paid the ultimate sacrifice for us to have the right to be where we are today.
We complain it's too hot or cold, that the traffic is too slow, or that we have to do a shift on the weekend, but somewhere out there is a member of OUR Defence Force sitting in a hole in the ground, sand for miles, and it is freezing.
A patrol going out, full battle dress, sweltering heat, and carrying 40kg on their backs. A convoy inching through a village, slowly, slowly, with the chance of being blown up. And we think our day is hard.
For tomorrow is ANZAC Day, and some of the people we honour are still there doing a job WE sent them to do. So tomorrow, stop and think what ANZAC day means to you, donate a few dollars to a charity that helps our MEN and WOMEN if they return sick or injured, but most of all respect our DIGGERS, be they young or old, and HONOUR our dead.
We live in the BEST COUNTRY in this world, let’s be the best WE can be.

A prescribed burn is planned in the north-western section of Warren Reservoir Reserve, 3km south east of Williamstown, on Saturday 18 April 2026, weather conditions permitting.

The prescribed burn will start at 12pm and is likely to be completed by 8pm. Smoke may be visible within the burn area for several days.

◾The area to be burnt is 12 hectares.

◾There will be no public access to the western side of Warren Reservoir during the burn.

◾This is a landscape protection burn to reduce bushfire risk and any impact on local communities, water quality and supply.

◾Smoke may be visible from Warren Road.

◾This burn was originally scheduled for Monday 13 April but was postponed.

National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia (NPWS) crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity.

Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
