Divers for Climate Divers for Climate is a community-led initiative that aims to empower the global dive community to accelerate action on climate change.

Divers for Climate is a community group led by a small and passionate team of divers, marine scientists and ocean advocates. Like many divers we are travelers and are based all over the world. Our goal is to increase engagement with climate action throughout the global dive community and beyond. We know how passionate divers are about the ocean, and we know that if given the right tools and support, the dive community could drive the climate movement forward significantly. So whether you're a recreational, professional, scuba, tech, commercial, freediver or soon-to-be diver (or anyone who loves the ocean really), we welcome you to join us on our journey.

Next week, we’ll be presenting some of our research at the Australian Marine Sciences Association (AMSA) conference in Canberra!

The team has been working together with local dive operators for the past 18 months, and are looking forward to shining a light on how marine-dependant industries are experiencing and responding to the ongoing South Australian harmful algal bloom.

Let us know if you’ll also be attending! 🤿

🌊 What an incredible night! 🌊

Last week, more than 80 members of the Cairns dive industry came together for an evening of connection, conversation, and a little friendly competition!

Who would’ve thought conversations about climate justice, resilience, and policy could be this much fun? 💙

From an insightful panel discussion, to climate trivia, pizza, and some amazing raffle prizes, the evening was a reminder that building resilient communities starts with bringing people together.

A huge thank you to our fantastic panellists for generously sharing their knowledge and perspectives:

And thank you to everyone who joined us, asked thoughtful questions, shared your ideas, and helped make the night such a success. It was inspiring to see so many divers united by a shared commitment to protecting the Great Barrier Reef and strengthening our community.

Finally, a huge thank you to our generous prize sponsors for helping make the evening even more memorable:

Thanks to Stephen Meagher | Photographer for the photos and to our hub lead gabriela_dives for hosting such an incredible event!

Part 2: Earlier this year, ahead of the giant cuttlefish season, we spoke with members of the Whyalla community about their concerns as the algal bloom edged closer to the region.

From uncertainty around the cuttlefish season to the need for collaboration between government, industry and the community, one message was clear: tackling events like this requires working together for the sake of our oceans.

Join our webinar on 30 July to hear the latest updates from dive operators, scientists, and ocean advocates on the ground in South Australia. Register via 🔗in bio!

Earlier this year, ahead of the giant cuttlefish season, we travelled to Whyalla to hear from the people who knows these waters best.

The local community shared what the giant cuttlefish aggregation means to them - and their growing concern about the algal bloom making its way to Whyalla.
