We meet on the 2nd Monday of each month at 2pm, in the Whorouly Library Hall or the Whorouly Anglican Church Hall. About Us
The Whorouly Branch of the Country Women's Association has been in continuous operation for over 75 years. A wonderful achievement of which we are proud. While our membership has decreased from the early days before women went out to work like they do today, we maintain app
roximately 20 financial members from our little town and district. Our age range is from young mums in their 30s to our senior stalwarts in their 80s and 90s, with the bulk making up the years in between. While our senior members are now finding physical activities a bit beyond them, they remain young at heart and buoy us up with their inspiration, experience and local knowledge. In an attempt to attract younger members, we have incorporated some evening meetings into our calendar to accommodate our working members and encourage other women in our community, who are in the workforce, to join us as well. Our activities are service based with involvement in the Whorouly and the wider local community, as well as fundraising to support causes especially related to women & children at state, national and international levels. We also advocate for better services for families especially in rural areas, including those involving communication networks, education and training opportunities, to name a few. Our fundraising involves our popular stalls at community events, raffles, involvement in The Biggest Morning Tea event for The Cancer Council and we co-host a community dinner to celebrate International Women’s Day. We support the CWA North Eastern Group fundraising activities with our sister branches in our network, including contributing to the maintenance of the CWA Hall in Wangaratta and CWA Victoria State fundraising activities like the Scone Drive. Our group is not all work either. We have wonderful social occasions with fun and fellowship, interesting speakers, entertainment and outings, and our twice monthly Community Craft, Coffee and Chat group at the Whorouly Cafe
We can also accommodate everyone. You don’t need to be a top cook or a clever craftsperson. Everyone has a skill or talent to contribute, which is valued. We support not only our members, but also any woman in our community who needs help in time of need. Why not give us a try? You will be warmly welcomed. Our meetings are usually held on the second Monday of the month (excluding January). Venues vary.
