🚗. Well, this not so old fella's home.

Yesterday was another rest day, this time in Hervey Bay, and Frank spent it making new mates with a pack of Mustangs parked up nearby. Lots of chat, mostly about horsepower — Frank held his own, even if he's carrying a few more squeaks than they were.

Bill & Lesa left him having a snooze in the sun while they went whale watching, which Frank was quite happy about given whales aren't really his scene.

This morning was a steady drive back down to Brisbane, with Frank insisting on one last pub stop at the Colmslie Pub for a quick lunch — he's not one to skip a final feed on the way home.

We rolled in with frozen feet (again) and a couple of brand new rattles to add to the collection — Frank's physio appointment is going to have plenty to work with.

Frank's earned his rest. Time to dust him off, patch him up, and start prepping for next year.

Frank's update 🚗

Frank had a very restful day yesterday — well earned after everything he's carried us through. This morning we woke him up and found a few new rattles and whirs have crept in (he's not one to complain, but we heard him). He's booked in to see his physio (mechanic) in a few weeks to get properly sorted.

In the meantime, he had a lovely bath this morning to freshen up, then a short run down to Hervey Bay for another well-deserved rest. Taking it easy, Frank-style. 🐚

Final day of the bash done and dusted! 🏁

Today we drove from Biloela to Gladstone, through some seriously corrugated roads — but Frank handled it like an absolute gentleman right to the finish line.

And what a way to finish. We're beyond proud (and a little emotional) to share that we were the highest fundraisers on this year's bash, raising $150,072! A massive, heartfelt thank you to the entire Keystone team and our wonderful donors and sponsors — we could not have gotten anywhere near this without you.

The bash as a whole raised over an incredible $1.8 million, which will go towards helping the Variety kids & families throughout Queensland. What an achievement from everyone involved. The Variety team & volunteers (including our fabulous medics) did an amazing job.

Beyond the fundraising and the roads, this trip has been about our bash family — the laughs, the creek crossings, the dress-up days, the sunsets, and every bit of dust in between. Especially our AW640, Robyn & Wayne Webster, who's carried us the whole way - thank you so much.

A special thank you to our brilliant mechanic Gary Sumner & our dear friend Kenny Adams for prepping Frank & encouraging him for the gruelling slog ahead.

Now it's time for a well-earned rest for Frank, before a gentle drive home through Hervey Bay — where we'll be keeping an eye out for whales along the way.

Thank you to everyone who followed along, cheered us on, and dug deep for such a great cause. This one will stay with us. 💛

Day 9: Carnarvon Gorge → Biloela

The mo made its triumphant return today (RIP the clean-shaven look, it was fun while it lasted)! 😄

Lunch stop was at Rolleston State School, where Variety handed over some sporting equipment for the kids — always a highlight getting to give back to the small communities along the way. Followed it up with a hilarious cricket match at a fun stop.

Live music kept the energy going at dinner tonight. The roads had a bit of dirt in them today & the scenery was spectacular - proper beautiful country out here. Warm one today too!

Frank was an absolute champion all day. Onward to our final bash day! 🚗💨

Day 8: Capella to Carnarvon Gorge

Bill lost the mo for the day, and the scenery more than made up for it — beautiful views the whole way from Capella through to Carnarvon Gorge, on a mix of bitumen and dirt. Frank ran like an absolute dream all day. It was also dress-up day — Tutu Tuesday — so the tutus were out in force!

Lunch was a highlight — a beautiful spread at Springsure State School, where a grant of interactive screens has the kids kitted out like they're at a big city school. After lunch we had a fun stop where a local farmer came down to meet everyone, and there were plenty of laughs. Along the way we spotted baby lambs and calves.

From there it was onto the dirt roads through to Carnarvon Gorge, for a night under the stars with live music and dancing.

Day 6: Barcaldine to Capella

Back on the road after our lay day! After the morning briefing was a sing-along to get everyone in good spirits, we hit a LOT of dirt roads today — and Frank ran like an absolute dream through all of it.

Lunch was a beautiful packed lunch at Mistake Creek State School, home to just four kids. There's something special about pulling into these tiny outback schools and seeing how big their welcome is.

After lunch it was straight back onto the dirt, before rolling into Clermont for an obligatory b**r at the Clermont Commercial Hotel, complete with a few games thrown in. Bill turned plenty of heads there — the jury's still out on whether his look was more p**n star, Chopper Read, or Mexican drug lord. Then a short run saw us into Capella for the night.

Lay Day – Barcaldine

A sleep in & well-earned rest today after five solid days on the road. Frank kicked back — a proper pamper session to make up for all the corrugations, creek crossings and his dodgy hip he picked up back at Cobbold Gorge. He's looking (and no doubt feeling) like a new car.

The rest of us spent the day on the less glamorous but very necessary job of repacking the car and bags, getting everything sorted for part 2 of the bash. Nothing like a lay day to remind you how much stuff accumulates in five days.

Rounded things off with a few drinks at the pub and an early night — bodies and brains topped back up, ready to hit the road again tomorrow.

Day 5: Hughenden to Barcaldine

Frank was in superstar form today, tackling some genuinely great roads on the way south. No dramas, no towing, just smooth outback miles ticking by.

Lunch was a highlight — the Tower Hill Picnic Amateur Race Club, where the racetrack was minus the horses but had a couple of fire trucks standing in instead. The local community put on a fantastic camp fire roast lunch, along with market stalls raising funds for the district. And for anyone who ducked off to the toilet, a surprise welcoming committee of green frogs was waiting in the bowl — outback plumbing comes with its own wildlife.

A pub stop at Ilfracombe kept spirits high before the final highway run into Barcaldine, rolling in just as the sun went down. Dinner brought another local visitor — an echidna wandering through camp, giving everyone a good look at one of the outback's more prickly characters.

Frank's earned his lay day tomorrow! Time to put the feet up before the next leg & give Frank some well earned pampering.

Day 4: Greenvale to Hughenden

After yesterday's hip surgery success, Frank ran like a dream all day — a relief after the drama at Cobbold Gorge. Plenty of creek crossings on the road to Hughenden, though most were bone dry this time, so no towing dramas today.

We had a 45-minute pit stop waiting for a cattle road train to pass — outback traffic jams come in a different flavour out here.

Lunch was a highlight, a stop at the little school in Pentland, before an easy, relaxed drive to finish up in Hughenden.

Day 3: Cobbold Gorge to Greenvale

Frank went under the knife (welder) this morning — a bit of roadside surgery on that dodgy hip from yesterday's corrugations — and rolled out of Cobbold Gorge feeling like a new car.

Today's theme did not disappoint: wedding dresses galore in honour of Lizzy's upcoming wedding, with the bashers dressed to the nines (or at least to the ankles) for the occasion.

The road from Cobbold Gorge to Greenvale was a cracker — creek crossing after creek crossing, and Frank powered through every sandy one like his hip surgery never happened, while a few unlucky cars needed a tow to get through. Lunch was grabbed on the run somewhere shady along the way.

We ended up at Three Rivers Hotel in Greenvale for our overnight stay. A few beverages around the camp fire were a perfect ending to the day.

Frank: 2, Sandy creek crossings: 0. Onwards to tomorrow.
