The JUNE NHW Newsletter is being collated this week and will be delivered to our Coordinators who then deliver to our street and zone volunteers in seven Regions across Ryde district. So look out for it in your letterbox this coming week if not already received.

NHW Ryde needs volunteers to deliver our newsletters six times a year. There are some gaps where we do not deliver because we do not have the walkers. If you presently do not get one of our newsletters that lists recent local criminal activity, then perhaps you can assist, especially as we need a little help in Ryde, North Ryde, (Midway zones) and Gladesville areas as well as Epping North.

As our existing volunteers are fully stretched and covering multiple areas, NEW areas can only be serviced with a bimonthly delivery, subject to these three basic criteria.
1. The local residents actually want to receive the newsletter.
2 Residents are willing and able to assist in their local delivery zones and streets with an Area or Zone Coordinator for each new area.
3. A sponsor or two is needed to cover the extra costs of the increased newsletter delivery numbers, presently at 1.2 cents per residential address. One Region = $800 for 6 deliveries per year per sponsor.

We presently deliver 46,800 bimonthly newsletters which means we need a little extra help. All walking club members and dog walkers are encouraged and invited to extend their exercise routine only 6 times a year and help our community to become more aware on keeping safe.

The boys (and girls) are back ready for another Salvo collection weekend. NHW Ryde volunteer members David Samuelsdorff and Mark McGrath, amongst other volunteers will be assisting the Salvos Red Shield Appeal at West Ryde Market Place on Saturday 30 May and Sunday 31 May 2026. Twelve NHW Ryde members will be assisting the Salvos Red Shield Appeal from 9am - 4pm each day collecting donations from local shoppers outside the Woolworths store. in West Ryde. It's time to help a great cause, help our neighbours and local community, even have a friendly chat and we promise no hard sell tactics, or put on hold. Cash or card and a friendly return smile and THNAK YOU.

Neighbourhood Watch Ryde District will be conducting the Bunnings BBQ at Gladesville on Sunday 19 April from 0830am to 4:000pm. Come along and grab a snag or two and find out more on how to keep our community safe and how to deter thieves and how to prevent being a victim of crime. You can help reduce our crime rate just by a few changes in your daily habits, like LOCK IT before your forgetfulness helps a change in ownership without permission.

The April NHW Newsletter is now being delivered to our Coordinators who then deliver to our street and zone volunteers in seven Regions across Ryde district, so look out for it in your letterbox this week if not already received. NHW Ryde needs volunteers to deliver our newsletters six times a year. There are some gaps where we do not deliver because we do not have the walkers. If you do not get one of our newsletters that lists all the reported crimes in your immediate local area, contact NHWRyde.com.au and register your name and number in your street. Maybe you can help deliver in your street to fill that gap, and be aware of actual crime incidents reported to Ryde Police.

Neighbourhood Watch Ryde is advising residents to lock their vehicles at ALL times as there have been a number of thefts of vehicles across our district. Where possible park off the street and in a garage or driveway and make it difficult for any intending thief to steal the vehicle or contents. Close gates, instal cameras and motion sensor lighting and activate alarm systems. Although inconvenient parking off road it is less convenient than losing your vehicle to organised gangs targeting suburbs across the Ryde community.
LOCK IT OR LOSE IT.

NHW Ryde - Events in March - 2026
COMMUNITY REPORT

Sunday 15 March: NHW Ryde conducted a Safety and Crime Prevention Information stall at Eastwood Plaza 10am – 2pm AGM in conjunction with other local community groups to celebrate HARMONY DAY. The entertainment, interviews and interaction between the groups was wonderful to witness as the groups celebrated Harmony Day.

Friday 20 March 7:00pm – 8:30pm was the time to celebrate with the Iranian and Persian residents as they welcomed in Nowruz(New Year). It was a joyful, colourful and welcoming event in the Ryde City Piazza.

Saturday 28 March: NHW Ryde was at the West Ryde EASTER CELEBRATIONS in Anzac Park starting 9am – 3:30pm. NHW Ryde conducted the Community BBQ with a sausage sizzle and drinks available to help raise funds for our safety literature renewal. The Easter concert was great with the pony rides and animal farm being a huge attraction and success with the kids, as well as all the slides and rides, face painting, and Easter bonnet, colouring In and singing competitions.
Oh ! to be a kid again (and again)

Coordinator’s Corner Philip W Brown
The recent Lunar, Harmony, Nowruz, & Easter festive celebrations have meant different things to many of our local residents and our business community. Depending on one’s family upbringing, faith, religion (practicing or not) it has been a time for reflection on where we are and also an opportunity to pause and consider what is important and what we stand for as a community.
Our world, local, nationally and internationally is tracking into a lot of uncertainty, testing our values, standards and even our belief systems.
Many in our community are struggling with the effects of higher living costs, inflation, and economic factors we appear to have no control over, yet feel the onslaught of decisions made by “others”. Discourse seems to be louder than harmony. Self-interest appears to be greater than community interest. It does not need to be.
Most volunteer groups are struggling to attract people to assist in a community group whether it be a sport, a communal, a charity or political entity.
However, there is always the opportunity for individual persons to look out for “that person” who needs a helping hand, a listening ear, a mini visit, a little uplifting chat, or just some time out together. By getting to know your neighbours, and looking out for each other it is one way to observe when something “maybe just isn’t right “ and a little help and kindness is needed. Reach out now.
Two areas that are causing a huge amount of concern is (1) the increase in fraudulent activity especially through reliance on the internet and the sophistication of the scammers and the vulnerability of the victims.
And (2) is the diversity of domestic violence and its effect not only on the immediate family but also on the broader community. Ryde police now spend a lot of time responding to DV incidents which leads to delayed responses to other criminal activity.
