👕 Free Second-Hand Uniforms + Swim Towel Sale

As we continue through our uniform transition period, we’re now offering second-hand old-style uniforms free of charge for students to use during this school year, up until the end of the transition period. If it helps your family, please feel welcome to pop in and take what you need.

♻️ Uniform Recycling
If you have old uniforms at home, we’d love for you to bring them to the Uniform Shop. Donating items helps other families and keeps uniforms out of landfill.

🏊‍♂️Swim Towels
Our school swim towels are also now reduced to $10 each (while stock lasts). Order online on Flexischools or shop in person at the Uniform Shop.

Thanks for your continued support 💙

☕❤️ Get to Know Mick – Our WESS Barista! ❤️☕

If you’ve grabbed a coffee at the WESS Café this year, you’ve probably already met the friendly face behind the machine – Mick!

Here’s a little more about him:

✨ Joined WESS: This year – and we’re so glad he did!

✨ What he loves about working at WESS: “Everyone’s different and everyone is genuinely happy to be here.”

✨ A surprising fact: He’s been bitten by two different species of monkeys! 🐒 (Yes, we have questions too!)

✨ His favorite coffee: Soy flat white with extra shot.

✨ Second favourite place for coffee: After the WESS Café of course 😉 – Single O

✨ Favourite colour: Red 🔴

Next time you’re at the café, say hi to Mick and order his go-to – the famous 2-shot soy flat white!

🚌 Did your family use the 86 bus?

Many families at West End State School and Brisbane State High School relied on the 86 Kurilpa loop for safe and convenient travel to and from school. Since the route was cancelled in January 2025, we know this has had an impact on daily routines for some in our community.

We’ve been asked to help gather feedback from families about how the removal of the 86 has affected you - whether that’s longer travel times, increased costs, safety concerns, or changes to your child’s independence.

Please take 5–10 minutes to complete this survey:

Your experiences will help inform ongoing advocacy from Trina Massey Councillor for the Gabba Ward for improved public transport options in the Kurilpa peninsula.

We are thrilled that Aussie West End will continue their journey with our P&C in 2026 as a major sponsor.

They were proud supporters of our 150th Fiesta last year and we are excited to have them supporting our community events again this year. You will see them joining us across our P&C activities as we celebrate and support our school community.

If you’re considering home finance options, reach out to Aussie West End, your local mortgage broker. Learn more about their business and services here:

🙌 High fives all around to our wonderful WESS families who joined us this morning for our first WESS Weedbusters event of the year!

Ambleside Street is looking absolutely stunning 🌿✨ What a difference a few helping hands can make.

Our School Facilities Manager has also given the green light - if you spot a w**d while you’re at school, you’re very welcome to pull it! Waiting at pick-up time or for an ECA to finish? See a sneaky w**d? Every little bit helps beautify our school grounds.

We’ll aim to organise another Weedbusters session in Term 3.

Thanks team - community in action 💚💙

Starting the year with the largest cohort ever recorded by Day 8 highlights the urgent need for additional classroom space in 4101.

The Visy site is still government-owned land, and with no clear alternative solutions in sight, concerns about overcrowding are quickly becoming a reality.

Continued high-rise development is placing significant pressure on our school catchment.
A long-term education plan for 4101 is essential to prevent overcrowding and secure the learning infrastructure our growing community needs.

Petition here 👉🔗 https://www.dontsellsb2.com/petition

Brisbane’s last publicly owned inner-city riverfront is at risk.

We’re calling for transparency, long-term vision, and a public South Bank 2.0 legacy that serves current and future generations.

Once public land is gone, it’s gone forever.

Add your voice and help protect the Visy Site.

Say hello to Bronte & Rachelle – Our wonderful OSHC Assistant Coordinators! ✨ We’re so lucky to have these two wonderful leaders in our OSHC team!

Bronte has been part of our community since 2021, and Rachelle joined us in 2024.

💚What they love most about OSHC:
Bronte loves the team and the kids — and it shows in everything she does.
Rachelle loves the different cultures and backgrounds that make our community so special.

🐷 Something you might not know:
Bronte once had a pet pig… named PIG!
Rachelle has lived in every state in Australia — how amazing is that?

🎨 If they weren’t in OSHC:
Bronte would be an artist and Rachelle would be a museum director - creative minds all around!

When asked to describe our school community in three words, they both said:

Big. Warm. Fun.

And we couldn’t agree more 💙
