JOHN MARTIN COUNTRY TOURNAMENT WRAP

What a long weekend for the Goldminers!

πŸ† U12 Boys A huge tournament for our U12 Boys, who claimed the Division 2 Championship. Fresh off their BNSW Western Junior League title, the boys defeated strong associations including Illawarra and Newcastle before defeating Canberra in the Grand Final to bring home the trophy.

πŸ€ U12 GirlsThe girls enjoyed a fantastic tournament, reaching the Semi Finals and pushing the eventual champions to overtime before falling by just one point. Their determination, resilience and teamwork were outstanding throughout the weekend.

πŸ€ U14 Boys Gold The boys produced some excellent basketball throughout the tournament, recording strong wins and competing hard against quality opposition. Their growth and development across the weekend was a credit to the group.

πŸ€ U14 Boys Blue The boys showed great resilience throughout the weekend, competing hard in every game and never taking a backward step. Their growth, teamwork and determination were on display from start to finish.

πŸ€ U14 Girls With only six players available, the girls showed incredible resilience across six games, finishing with three wins and three losses. Their effort, determination and willingness to compete never wavered.

πŸ€ U16 Boys Gold The boys produced some excellent passages of basketball throughout the tournament and continued to build with every game. Their effort and commitment provided plenty of positives for the future.

πŸ€ U16 Boys Blue The boys continued to improve with every game, showing great character, resilience and teamwork throughout the tournament. They competed hard against quality opposition and represented us with pride.

πŸ€ U16 GirlsThe girls took on the challenge of competing in the Premier Division against some of the strongest teams in country basketball. Their Quarter Final appearance reflected their determination, teamwork and willingness to embrace every challenge.

πŸ€ U18 Boys The boys represented Bathurst proudly throughout the weekend, competing with intensity and determination against strong opposition. Their effort and commitment never dropped across the tournament.

πŸ€ U18 Girls The girls put together a strong tournament, earning a place in the Quarter Finals and competing hard against quality opposition. Their teamwork, resilience and commitment were on display throughout the weekend.

πŸ€ A special shout out to our Bathurst referees who represented the club throughout the tournament. Officiating is a vital part of our game, and we are grateful for the time, effort and professionalism they bring to basketball every weekend.

A huge thank you to every coach, manager, referee, volunteer, parent and supporter who helped make the weekend possible. We were proud to host the U16 division, and events like this simply don't happen without the people who give so much time behind the scenes.

From champions to semi finalists, from quarter finalists to first-time representatives, every Goldminer contributed to a long weekend the club can be proud of!!

Saturday night wasn’t what anyone wants to see at a basketball game, and we know the actions of a visiting spectator may have upset some players, families and spectators in our Goldminers community.

We also want to thank our court supervisors, referees, volunteers and wider basketball community for the way they responded on the night. The situation was handled quickly and respectfully, allowing the game to continue and the focus to return to the players.

We just wanted to remind everyone that support is available if anyone needs someone to talk to or a bit of extra help following the incident.

Families are always welcome to reach out to the Board at [email protected] if you’d like help finding appropriate local support services or just aren’t sure where to start.

Our club has always been about creating a safe, supportive and respectful environment for kids and families, and that won’t change.

Bathurst Basketball United acknowledges the events that occurred at tonight’s Youth League game. BBU takes seriously its role to provide a safe environment for basketball players, referees and officials.

We sincerely apologise to all players, officials, and spectators for the impact on the game experience which resulted in two visiting spectators being ejected from the stadium.

BBU remains committed to promoting respect, sportsmanship, and the integrity of basketball at every level with zero tolerance for inappropriate involvement of spectators.

Basketball is a passionate, emotional and fast-paced game, and the atmosphere around our sport is something special. We encourage everyone to continue bringing energy and support to our venues while remembering the importance of respecting the game, the players, the referees and each other.

We ask everyone to uphold the rules and spirit of the game as the matter is currently being investigated by Basketball NSW.

A huge shout out to all our Bathurst Basketball mums today.

To the mums who coach, referee and play. To the mums who cheer from the sidelines, manage teams, run benches and work the canteen.

To the mums who do the drop offs, pick ups, washing, cleaning, packing drink bottles, organising jerseys and driving all over the countryside for basketball.

To the mums who celebrate the wins, give the big hugs after the tough losses and do all the quiet jobs no one sees.

Thank you for everything you do for our players, teams and basketball community.

We hope all our Bathurst basketball families spoil their mums today.

Happy Mother’s Day!
