Turf Queensland

Turf Queensland The Turf Industry Peak Body representing Turf Producers in Queensland.

The Queensland Turf Producers Association (QTPA), now trading as "Turf Queensland" commenced in March 2001 and, believed it was timely to develop a Strategic Development Plan (2003/2006) to support, in a sustainable and professional manner, the next three-year growth of the industry in this state. As is the case with all associations the development of member benefits was paramount and addressing

the various issues identified by members through the inclusive research of the Strategic Plan has provided considerable direction for the executive of Turf Queensland.

We’re excited to announce that the Turf Queensland Industry Social & AGM is back!

Join us at The Greek Club on Friday, 9 October from 6pm for a great night to catch up with other growers and industry, hear about the work Turf Queensland has been doing over the past 12 months, and enjoy plenty of good food, drinks and conversation.

Tickets are $130 per person, with Turf Queensland covering the balance of the cost for the evening.

We’ve also made the decision to move our planned Sustainability Field Day to next year. There have been a lot of industry events packed into a relatively short period this year, and rather than asking growers to attend yet another event, we think it makes sense to give it the space it deserves in 2027.

For now, we’d love you to come along to the Industry Social & AGM. If you’ve been before, you’ll know it’s always a good night. If you haven’t been before, this is the year to come along.

Come and hear what we’ve been working on, have your say, eat, drink and connect with the people who make up our industry.

A great example of what industry connection and collaboration is all about.

Turf Queensland President Amanda Smyth from Wild Horse Turf recently joined TurfNSW to share her journey as a first generation turf grower, her experience as a woman in the turf industry, and the path that has led her to taking on the role of President of Turf Queensland.

Opportunities like this give growers the chance to hear different perspectives, share experiences and learn from others who understand the challenges and opportunities of running a turf business.

Amanda’s story is a great reminder of the value of bringing people together and creating opportunities for connection across the wider turf industry.

Thanks to TurfNSW for the invitation and for giving Amanda the opportunity to share her story.

Help us understand our industry's water use.

We're trying to get a better understanding of how many turf farms access irrigation water through a Sunwater scheme.

If your farm is supplied by a Sunwater irrigation scheme, could you please comment below with the name of your scheme?

Your responses will help Turf Queensland better understand grower needs and identify opportunities for future support and advocacy.

Safety starts with knowing where your risks are.

This National Safety Week, it's a timely reminder that creating a safer workplace isn't just about having policies and procedures—it's about understanding where your risks are and taking action.

That's exactly what Turf360 helps you do.

Turf360 is more than a best practice manual sitting on a shelf. It's an interactive online tool that guides you through your current practices, evaluates your business against industry best practice, and generates a personalised report highlighting your risks, compliance gaps and opportunities for improvement.

And it doesn't stop at Workplace Health & Safety.

Turf360 assesses every aspect of your operation, including:
✅ Workplace Health & Safety
✅ Soil Health
✅ Irrigation & Water Management
✅ Fertiliser & Nutrition
✅ W**d, Pest & Disease Management
✅ Environmental Management
✅ Biosecurity
✅ Business Management..and much more.

Whether you're looking to improve compliance, reduce risk or simply run a better business, Turf360 gives you a clear roadmap to get there.

Because best practice isn't about ticking boxes—it's about continuously improving your business.

Did you know? 🌱

The standards within Turf360 aren't new standards—they're built on more than decades of industry knowledge.

Over 15 years ago, two research scientists, stationed out of the Redlands Research Facility, worked alongside Australian and international turf specialists to develop Australia's Best Management Practice (BMP) standards for producing high quality turf.

Those standards remain just as relevant today. What's changed is how growers can access and apply them.

Because these aren't just guidelines—they represent the collective knowledge of industry experts on what it takes to consistently produce quality turf, reduce risk and build a more resilient business.

Please be advised that the National Fire Ant Eradication Program has officially transitioned a number of locations from suppression treatment areas into eradication treatment areas.

If your property is located within one of the new transition areas, you should immediately cease using fire ant treatments containing insect growth regulators (IGRs), including Distance and Engage products, where these products are currently being applied.

This is important to avoid potential breaches of Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) permit conditions.

Growers should continue responding to suspect ant activity using approved direct nest treatment products, including:
• Advion
• Rifaway
• Fipronil via direct nest injection

Updated maps and spatial data outlining the transition areas have been released and can be found linked here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1898uzAhefmEq3U-TBSZPXG0dmqQxSFSK/view?usp=sharing

If you are unsure whether your property falls within one of the transition areas, or would like assistance understanding how this may impact your current treatment approach or compliance obligations, please get in touch with the program in the first instance.

Big step forward for the turf industry 🌱

We’re excited to share that Turf Queensland has been selected as the delivery partner for the Levy funded national turf biosecurity manual.

This is a great outcome for growers and an important step in strengthening how we manage biosecurity risks across the industry.

Working alongside Plant Health Australia, we’ll be forming project reference groups to ensure growers have a direct role in shaping the outcome. It’s an exciting opportunity for the industry to come together nationally, from Sting Nematodes in WA through to RIFA in Queensland, to make sure we get this right.

The manual will be delivered in both hard copy and is being integrated into Turf360.

Integrating the manual into Turf360 is about shifting from a static document you read, to a practical benchmarking tool that shows where your farm is exposed, compares your current practices against best practice, and clearly identifies what actions are needed to close the gaps

Importantly, this is another step toward scaling Turf360 as a tool for the broader industry, connecting best practice, training, and real world farm application in a way that’s accessible to growers across all states.

Looking forward to working with growers and industry partners as this rolls out over the coming months.
