Thank you to everyone who attended our second Financial Literacy Online Dialogue on Tuesday!

We were delighted to welcome 76 participants from across Australia and the Pacific, including 37 participants who joined in person from the Coffee Industry Authority Training Centre in Goroka, hosted by our Hub Coordinator Georgina Benson.

A big thank you to our presenter, Betsy Westcott, for her practical insights on how to build financial foundations for sustainable businesses, support growth and balance business income with personal and family responsibilities.

There has been strong interest from our members in continuing the Financial Literacy series, so stay tuned for more!

Pacific Islands Export Survey 2026 Now Available!

ICDP welcomes the release of Pacific Trade Invest Australia’s (PTI) Pacific Islands Export Survey 2026 Report, contributed to by our members.

Earlier this year, PTI invited exporters across the Pacific to take part in this year's survey, and the response was outstanding. For the first time since the survey began in 2014, all 16 Forum Island Countries participated, marking the highest engagement in its history.

As the only region-wide survey focused specifically on exporters, this report offers a valuable evidence base for businesses and policymakers alike, shedding light on the opportunities and challenges facing Pacific exporters today.

Our student internship programme is going from strength to strength!

In August, we welcomed our newest team member, April Creswick, who is supporting ICDP’s executive team across social media, communications and project management. Currently studying a double Bachelor’s degree in Science and International Studies at UTS, April brings an interesting mix of perspectives and a real interest in intercultural communication. Her experience connecting with people from different cultures will be a great asset as she supports ICDP’s work across Australia and the Pacific. The ICDP/GAP internship programme has a growing alumni network, with former interns now working in diplomacy, international relations, media, government and the not-for-profit sector.

We are excited to announce that registration for our second ICDP Dialogue on Financial Literacy is now open!

This session will feature guest speaker Betsy Westcott, a renowned business finance coach and economic commentator, and will be co-facilitated by Goroka Hub Coordinator Georgina Benson and ICDP Director Catherine Fritz-Kalish AM.

Participants will learn how to track expenses, price products and services for profit and manage cash flow with confidence. The session will also explore how to balance business income with personal and family responsibilities, and look at different ways to fund and grow a business over time.

Congratulations to our partner Red Hat Impact and its co-founder and director, Cameron Neil, on their 10th anniversary!

From the moment they joined ICDP’s Pacific Connect network in November 2018, through many productive engagements via cross-Pacific dialogues, capacity-building workshops and community initiatives, this has become one of our most enduring and valuable collaborations.

What makes the ICDP/Red Hat Impact partnership particularly valuable is our shared commitment to the Pacific and the belief that by creating opportunities for Australian and Pacific Island entrepreneurs and businesses to work together on common challenges we can bring our countries and communities closer together.

One of our most significant joint ventures to date has been the Trade Finance Vehicle 2.0, designed to help Pacific women entrepreneurs reduce the costs associated with production, trade, financing and logistics. Red Hat Impact acts as co-designer and steward of the initiative, while ICDP brings its extensive regional network to the collaboration.

We wish Cam and the entire Red Hat Impact team a bright future and look forward to continuing our work together in the challenging and immensely rewarding field of international development.

We are delighted to share the report from the ICDP Financial Literacy Dialogue, “Building Financial Confidence for a Stronger Tomorrow”, held on 7 May.

Supported by our wonderful Pacific Hub Coordinators, and co-facilitators Torika Kalman and Catherine Fritz-Kalish AM, participants joined the discussion from Australia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu.

Our sincere thanks goes to Shani Jayamanne, who shared very practical insight on personal financial management and the importance of financial independence, particularly for women.
