The Indian Caribbean Museum had a great Indian Heritage Workshop in which participants were showed how to make coconut oil, also known as nariel oil, by tutor, Dilip Denesh Maharaj.

The Indian Caribbean Museum is pleased to host these workshops as a way of preserving and propogating our rich traditions as handed down to us by our forefathers.

Do you know that on Monday 18th May, 2026 the world celebrates International Museum Day? This will be celebrated by all museums in Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday 17th May at the Central Bank Museum.

This weekend, the Indian Caribbean Museum of Trinidad and Tobago will be joining with other museums throughout Trinidad and Tobago in celebrating International Museum Day at the Central Bank Museum on Sunday 17th May, 2026 from 10:00am to 5:00 pm.

The ICM will be conducting a free mini workshop in Madhubani art, an artform handed down by our ancestors whi cam from India.

The Indian Caribbean Muesum started its Annual Heritage Workshop series for 2026 on Sunday 2nd May, with the Singing of Lokgeets.

Participants learnt a variety of folk songs ranging from Sadhuwaiya Bhajans, Sohars, wedding songs, and local classical selections. Tutor Dilip Denesh Maharaj spoke of the rich history of lokgeets and the benefits of teaching such songs to the youths of today and the future. He stated that these songs do not just capture the history of the past, but also captured the emotions when sung.

Dilip Denesh Maharaj had a special guest, his Sangeet Guru, cultural activist, Sangeet Aacharya Rukminee Holass Beepath to take lead in training the participants is this session.

The evening was certainly and enlightening and enriching one for all present. Looking foeward to seeing you in the next workshop- the making of Nariel oil.
