As Corporal Alf Ellis was from Allora, I thought I would share this here, as he is a local.

This photograph was taken of Corporal Alfred Roland 'Alf' Ellis, of Allora, Queensland, on 3 November 1955.

In the image, Ellis is being served a dish of 'Zaru Soba', which the original description to the image humourously described as "slippery noodles which must be dipped in a separate dish of soup before being manouvered mouthwards."

Corporal Ellis had been in Japan for 21 months at the time of this photograph, serving with the British Commonwealth Base Signals Regiment. It was second tour in the area, having previously spent 15 months with the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR).
