Survey is extended until 10th April!
Queensland Health listened to our feedback about this not being shared widely enough and agreed to extend it. Here’s a quick video from Bec from the independent panel. Please have your say, and if you’d like to meet with Bec and the panel to chat further you can opt in at the end of the survey.

🌻 Exciting update! A new chapter for our community! 🌻

It’s been over two and a half years since this page started, connecting local women to improve our maternity services. What began as a Warwick/Stanthorpe project has had amazing outcomes:
• Midwifery Group Practice in Warwick and Stanthorpe is now a reality, giving women a known midwife throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
• Water birth is now available at Stanthorpe with credentialed midwives.
• Women’s voices have informed hospital policy, shaped surveys, and contributed to Clinical Excellence Queensland initiatives.

It’s been challenging, heartwarming, heartbreaking, rewarding and a privilege, but above all it’s shown that everyday women’s voices really do need to be at the table where decisions are being made and this needs to be community led.

💛 Now it’s time to grow. Women across the Darling Downs deserve the opportunity to be heard, so this page is expanding. The communities that are impacted by the decisions made by our health service are spread far and wide, and our experiences are vastly different across the map, so let’s come together!

Over the coming weeks, you’ll see our new name: Darling Downs Maternity Voices, and we’ll share how you can get involved with local opportunities as they arise.

Whether you’ve been here since the start or are new to our community, welcome, and thank you for being part of this journey.

Toowoomba Hospitals Maternity Service is currently undergoing an independent review ordered by Queensland Health. One part of that review is looking at the current complaints process. Is it effective? Are women being heard? Is it appropriate for women who have just given birth? If you know anyone who has given birth at Toowoomba please share this around everyone’s different perspectives can be heard and things can improve. There is power in the voices of mums in our community!

Since Toowoomba is where our local women are transferred to when we need a higher level of medical care, we thought we better share this.

We are waiting to hear from Maternity Consumer Network about how women can share their experiences with the independent reviewers, with the intent to improve our local maternity services and address the issues that are deeply impacting families.

We want to add that there are some fantastic staff at Toowoomba who genuinely care about women and families, and we hear lots of positive stories too. This isn’t about slamming the service and everyone in it, but about the concerning behaviour, staff members and workplace culture that allow or cover up this unacceptable behaviour.

If you are planning birthing at Toowoomba and are concerned there is support available for you. Please feel free to reach out if you need 🌻

Announcement comes after a woman reveals her support person was prevented from entering the birth suite while she was in labour by Toowoomba Hospital security.

🌻Self Referral Link for Pregnancy Care to your local Public Hopsital 🌻

If you can’t get in to see a GP or just prefer to self refer for any other reason you can fill this form out and your details will go to our local maternity team at Warwick Hospital.

It can take 1-2 weeks for a midwife to contact you and arrange a booking in appointment. If you experience any symptoms you are concerned about, you can call 13Health or head into the Emergency Department.

Reach out if you have any questions or feedback about the self referral process. The department that created the process and form are always happy to receive feedback and we can absolutely pass that along!

To access usual pregnancy care services, please contact your local General Practitioner or Hospital via the Queensland Health Find a health service webpage.
