Warwick Dog Obedience Club

Warwick Dog Obedience Club Dog Training & Education WDOC was founded in 1975 to help teach people and their dogs basic obedience.

The Club has evolved over the past 40 years through Incorporation and is currently an Unaffiliated (Social) Club member of Dogs QLD. We continue to service the local community with science based canine education.

The foundation skills for Obedience Trials are exactly the same skills needed to make life easier with your dog.

The most natural chew you can give your dog with excellent nutritional value as well. Just remember, no cooked bones or large weight bearing bones.

After 35+ years in practice, I am certain that raw bones are one of the most important parts of our dogs' healthy diet. They are important for dental health which is closely tied to cardiac, kidney, digestive and liver health and beyond.

Thresholds are a similar situation to the "Jumping up for Greetings" exercise we practiced in Foundation Games Class last Sunday. A simple treat scatter can calm the arousal levels.

If your dog is a SHREDDER, don't throw out that old lettuce or cabbage. Even a carrot is 5 minutes entertainment for Boo.

Signs to give your a dog a lettuce to shred !!

A safe enrichment toy for your dog with a bit of a difference.

Try giving your dog a head of a lettuce as a safe enrichment toy to shred.

A few signs that your dog might enjoy it :

• Pacing, restlessness, or looking for something to do.
• Carrying toys around but not settling with them.
• Digging, chewing, or shredding cardboard, paper, or other appropriate items.
• High energy despite having had exercise.
• They already enjoy food puzzles, snuffle mats, or other enrichment activities.
• Showing curiosity when you introduce new objects.

A few tips:

• Plain lettuce (such as iceberg or romaine) is generally safe for most dogs in moderation, but it should be an occasional enrichment activity rather than a regular meal.
• Supervise your dog while they shred it.
• If your dog tends to swallow large pieces without chewing, a lettuce head may not be the best choice.
• Stop if it causes digestive upset (vomiting, diarrhoea, excessive gas).
• Remove any plastic ties, stickers, or packaging first.

A lettuce head can be especially useful on rainy days or when your dog needs a low-calorie shredding activity.

Have fun – I bet your dog will !

Keep the faith.

Our dog is simply a vessel to teach us the lessons we are intended to learn as we travel through life. If we don't take the time to see the lesson, you can be sure it will come around to us again. Those lessons can include people & friendship, love & loyalty, gratitude, profound loss & recovery from unforeseen struggles, faith & belief to overcome obstacles. We can learn to be more accepting & less reactive & judgmental. We may realize the need for more knowledge but at the end of our journey together, we won't wish for more success. We could regret that we didn't learn our lessons earlier so we could have enjoyed our journey more fully.
