Thanks to a new partnership with airbnb.org we treated one of the families we are supporting to a respite stay in Williamstown. The much needed break allowed them to reconnect as a family and spend quality time with their youngest child, while remaining close to the Royal Children's Hospital for their son. The change of scenery was greatly appreciated after such a challenging year for the whole family.

💛 As Childhood Cancer Awareness Month comes to an end, we remember the kind, courageous and energetic teenager at the heart of the Crystal Lee Foundation💛

Crystal Lee Johnson was just 19 years old when a rare and aggressive cancer tragically took her life.

Throughout an incredibly challenging journey, Crystal faced invasive treatments, long periods away from the people she loved, and the devastating news that nothing more could be done to save her life.

Yet, through it all, Crystal continued to show strength, determination and compassion for others. Most importantly, she had a wish to create a charity that would support other young people and families facing the challenges her own family had experienced.

The Crystal Lee Foundation was established in 2019 by Crystal's parents, Trevor and Jo, in honour of Crystal and her warm and generous spirit. Today, Crystal’s legacy continues to shape our work. It’s impact can be seen every day in the young people and families we help, and in the community that supports us.

Thank you, Crystal - we are proud to honour your life and memory.

Their experience of family separation and financial hardship is why the Crystal Lee Foundation exists, and why we are so determined to be there for families accross South West Victoria on a childhood cancer journey.

Don’t worry, this is just a pause. We know how much our little shop means to the community, and to the local families who benefit from the programs it funds.

Did you know that almost half (48%) of all children diagnosed with cancer in Australia are under the age of 5 at diagnosis?

The Crystal Lee Foundation has been supporting Gia and her family since she was just 3 months old - making her the youngest little one in our Family Support Program.

Two-and-a-half years later, Gia has completed her treatement and is in many ways, a typical, happy, toddler. But there are lasting impacts of childhood cancer, on the whole family - which is why the Foundation will continue to be there for Gia, her parents and siblings, for as long as they need.

We would like to take the opportunity during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month to thank everyone whose support of the Crystal Lee Foundation has enabled us to walk beside young people and families from South West Victoria on their cancer journey.

💛 September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month 💛

This month, we shine a light on the young people and families across South West Victoria whose lives are changed forever by childhood cancer.

Through our Family Support Program, we provide practical and emotional support to families caring for a child diagnosed with cancer with one simple aim - to take some of the everyday pressures away, so families can focus on what matters most: their child and each other.

But we couldn't do it without the people and businesses who support our Foundation and our Op Shop in Koroit. So this Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we thank our incredible community for standing alongside children, young people and families across South West Victoria. Together, we can make sure no family has to face the journey alone. 🎗️

FUNDRAISING APPEAL

Right now, families across Australia are feeling the pinch from the rising cost of living, but none more so than the ones we support at the Crystal Lee Foundation.

When a young person from South West Victoria is diagnosed with cancer, their only option is to travel to Melbourne for life-saving treatment. This has a huge financial impact on their families who often experience reduced income and additional expenses associated with long periods away from home and household split between two locations.
So today, we’re asking for your support.

Our goal is to raise $5,000 before 30 June to ensure we can continue to stand alongside these families when they need us most.

Your donation will help us: Provide additional fuel and supermarket vouchers to ease the financial burden on local families accessing cancer treatment for their young person in Melbourne.
