Warrnambool Community Garden A welcoming place for our community to grow, learn, produce and share Our gardening is based around organic principles and permaculture.

Warrnambool Community Garden is a common ground where all people are welcome to come together in a spirit of mutual support and friendship to grow, learn, produce and share. We're a membership-based community garden and welcome casual volunteers. Warrnambool Community Garden Inc. formed in 2006 in response to a desire to create a space where people could meet and enjoy the many benefits of gardeni

Our members come from a huge range of backgrounds and the garden fulfils many different purposes for each one. Less than half of our members have a private plots - the majority have joined to be involved in communal activities. We look forward to welcoming you soon!

🌱 Divide & Conquer is Back This Month! 🌱
📅 Sunday 14 June
⏰ 10:00am – 12:30pm
📍 Warrnambool Community Garden
Corner of Grieve & Derby Streets, Warrnambool

Divide & Conquer is our relaxed monthly plant propagation group, where plant lovers of all experience levels come together to swap skills, share plants, learn new tricks and get their hands dirty.

Got a plant that needs dividing? A cutting that's getting out of hand? A succulent that's produced 47 babies and is staging a takeover of your house?
Bring it along!
We'll have plenty of plants and propagation projects to work on, so there's no need to bring anything. But if you'd like to contribute, you're welcome to bring:
🪴 Donor plants to divide and share
🌿 Cuttings to propagate
🍃 Offsets, pups, runners, bulbs or anything else that can become more plants
🥤 Small pots you'd like to donate (we're always happy to take them)

The plants we create help stock the Warrnambool Community Garden plant stall, raising funds for the garden while keeping affordable plants circulating throughout the community. We'll provide the potting mix and propagation materials, and you're welcome to take a few plants home too.

Got a favourite propagation hack or gardening tip? We'd love to learn from you!

💚 Everyone welcome — whether you're a seasoned plant nerd or you've never propagated a plant in your life. Come along for a chat, pick up some new skills, meet fellow plant lovers and help turn one plant into many.

⚠️ Warning: attendance may result in an inexplicable increase in the number of plants at your house. 🌿

🌱 Wednesday Market at the Garden

Fresh veggies picked straight from the garden, a good coffee, something tasty for dinner and a chance to catch up with friends — that’s what Wednesdays at Warrnambool Community Garden are all about.

Many of our vegetables are harvested just hours before the market and travel only a few metres from the garden beds to the stall. It doesn’t get much lower food miles than that!

Tomorrow you’ll find

ON THE MARKET STALL
🥬 Fresh garden produce
🍞 Bread from Jane Dough
🥚Caravan Eggs
🍯 Grumble Bee honey
🪴 Plants and preserves

FOOD AND DRINKS
☕ Gaetano is BACK! in HUB cafe with coffee, tea and Canolli, Cinnamon Scrolls, and Tasty Focaccia
🥟 Jun's Home Kitchen famous dumplings
🌶️ Sri Agri Kitchen delicious Sri Lankan food

Be sure to say g’day to our newest lovely volunteers Dan, Mana and Natasha, who are back for week two training and learning the ropes.

See you at the market!!

This week at Sprouts Club, kids will get their hands dirty planting daffodil and white freesia bulbs in recycled terracotta pots, some to brighten our new potting bench and others to take home and watch grow 🌼

It's the last chance to tuck them in for their winter slumber so we can enjoy the beauty in spring! We’ll also be sowing climbing snow peas in fun, eco-friendly toilet roll pots🫛🫛

Join us in the Sprouts Club Garden, Wednesday 10th June, 4–4:45 pm, perfect for curious kids who love to dig, plant, and grow.

With 51 'private' plots across the garden, everyone brings their own style and approach. We had a casual show-and-tell catch-up, where some members were looking for tips on how to combat the weeds, and others were showing off the beautiful soil they’ve built up over the years.

It was great to see the mix of techniques people are using, and to hear how some members share plots, seedlings, resources and support each other along the way. Because everyone visits at different times, it was a nice chance to connect and swap ideas.

Next time you’re at the garden, take a wander through the plots and see what’s growing, there’s always something new to spot.

While there’s a waiting list for plots at the moment, we’re always keen for extra hands in the shared spaces on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. It’s a great way to learn and get involved while you wait for a plot to become available.

Brrr! Welcome to winter! A time for slowing down, making plans for next season and enjoying the warmth of a hot cuppa 🍵

Even though the weather is a bit poor, activities don't stop at the garden, especially with the new blind on the deck - thanks Gilles and Graham! We're super excited about some events and workshops coming up, check then out in our latest newsletter. The pocket forest is ready for planting, the market is making magic and we're preparing for our slot at the Warrnambool Storytelling Festival.

🌿 Warrnambool Community Garden Market 🌿
Winter has officially arrived, and Wednesday is looking like one of those cold, blustery June afternoons. Thankfully, we'll be tucked up warm and dry inside the Hub building, so the market is still very much on!
There's something pretty special about the winter markets. The smell of fresh sourdough, friendly conversations and baskets overflowing with seasonal produce make the Hub feel a bit like a country kitchen.
This week you'll find:
🥬 Fresh garden produce picked by our volunteers
🍞 Jane Dough Sourdough bread and pastries
🥚 Caravan Eggs
🍯 Grumble Bee honey
🌱 Plants, preserves and garden goodies

🌿 Visitors from Ballarat Community Garden 🌿
On Sunday we had the pleasure of welcoming six visitors from Ballarat Community Garden and showing them around our garden, sharing stories, ideas and plenty of garden chat along the way.

The weather certainly kept things interesting. One minute we were wandering through the garden, the next we were making a dash for the tractor shed to escape a sudden downpour! Thankfully the sunshine returned and we were able to continue the tour, swap stories and share ideas over a delicious potluck lunch.

Our visitors loved the Food Cubes, the beauty and whimsy of the Kids' Garden, and the scale and transformation of the Quarry. It was wonderful to see our garden through fresh eyes and be reminded just how special this place is.

Earlier this year, some of our members visited Ballarat Community Garden and came home full of ideas. Their plant propagation program and annual spring plant sale have already inspired new conversations and activities here, including our growing interest in plant propagation and the beginnings of our Divide & Conquer group.

As a generous parting gift, they presented us with a beautiful collection of seeds to help us keep growing, which was very much appreciated.

A big thank you to our Ballarat friends for making the trip, and to everyone who contributed food, time and conversation. There’s something special about spending time with people who understand the joys, challenges and possibilities of community gardening, and we all came away inspired.

As the weather cools, it’s time to give your immune system a little extra boost.

Join us for a hands-on fermenting workshop with Drakes Fresh Produce where you’ll learn how to make your own milk kefir, kombucha, and sauerkraut from scratch. Simple, traditional methods you can easily recreate at home.

We’ll explore how fermenting supports gut health, reduces food waste, and builds confidence in using what you already have in your kitchen.

Along the way, you’ll enjoy plenty of tastings and leave feeling inspired and ready to start your own fermenting journey.

You’ll also take home course notes plus either a kombucha SCOBY or kefir grains to get you started.

Monday 15 June
5:30–7:30pm
$95 per person, includes plenty of tastings

Spots are limited. Book online or message Theres on 0420 791 389 to secure your place and pay via bank transfer.
