VALE - PATRICIA (Pat) BLACKNEY (Nee Richardson)
All at the Warrnambool SLSC are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our Life Members, Pat Blackney, who passed away peacefully at her home in Warrnambool, surrounded by her loving family, on August 25. Pat was 95 years old and was the wife of Ron (dec.), who was also a distinguished Life Member.
Pat was the cherished mother of Anne-Maree, Sharon and Lynn; admired mother-in-law of Ian and Rebel; and friend of Adam and Vlado. She was the adored Granny of Marli, Sienna and Steve, Tanna, Ahliya, Jordan, Jarra, Charlotte and Audrey. We extend our deepest sympathies to Patโs family and friends.
Pat joined the Warrnambool SLSC in 1951, where many great times were had in the old clubhouse. During the 1950s and โ60s, on the last Thursday of each month, Associates met at different venues for Ladies Night, where a more formal meeting also took place. Pat served as Secretary of this group for a period of time. When a formal Ladies Committee was established, Pat became President from 1966โ68.
In the 1966/67 season, women were permitted to present for the Resuscitation Certificate, and Pat joined a group that successfully obtained the qualification. Pat was also a regular at the Club dances, which she remembered as always being โgood funโ. Pat believed these social occasions were responsible for many romances and future partnerships!
Pat was also a recorder for the Hopkins River Mile Swim for more than 40 years. There were many hectic times manually working out the results at the end of the swim and ensuring presentations could be made immediately afterwards.
Her involvement extended across generations. Pat attended surf carnivals for more than 60 years, supporting Ron, her children and grandchildren, and remaining a familiar and much-loved presence around the Club.
In recognition of her outstanding contribution and service, Pat was awarded Life Membership of the Warrnambool Surf Life Saving Club in 1974.
Pat gave generously of her time and energy for many decades. Whether it was administration, fundraising, competition support, social events, the Hopkins River Mile Swim or simply being there to support the Club and our members.
Thank you, Pat, for your all-round contribution to the Warrnambool SLSC and for a lifetime of friendship, service and support. Your connection to our Club spans generations and leaves a wonderful legacy. A life very well lived.
Rest peacefully, Pat.
