francis foundation inc. Preventing Mental Illness From Leading to Homelessness The Francis Foundation is very much a local initiative and continues to be informed by care for others.

The Francis Foundation was founded in 1981, when responding to a local need, John and Joan Grace OAM provided accommodation in their own home for a couple of people who were homeless due to their mental illness. Later moving to premises rented from the Warrnambool City Council, the Francis Foundation was largely driven by Joan Grace and committed local volunteers. In 1990 an Op Shop was opened in

Port Fairy to support the work of the Francis Foundation, also driven by a strong team of local volunteers. Sadly, Joan Grace passed away early in 2023 but the work she started all those years ago continues with the Francis Foundation providing rooming house accommodation for up to ten people whose mental health would otherwise put them at risk of homelessness. It’s National Volunteer Week, and francis foundation is bursting with gratitude for our incredible community of volunteers! 🌟 Whether you are serving customers in our Port Fairy Op Shop or on the front lines helping at our rooming house or working behind the scenes on our Board of Management, your time, energy, and compassion make our mission possible.
We truly couldn't do it without you! 💜

Since our Op Shop in Sackville Street, Port Fairy opened in 1990 Mary & Jackie have been enthusiastic volunteers. Thank you for your tireless commitment – we are a better organisation because of you both!
Thursday mornings (their regular shift) will never be the same!

To support YHMD we’re asking that you:

DONATE – to youth homelessness services
ADVOCATE – to end youth homelessness by contacting your local member of parliament
By coming together we can all play a part in ending child and youth homelessness.

Our recent vacancy was filled yesterday by someone who has experienced homelessness for the last four years. One of our volunteers noticed the person "sleeping rough "in Warrnambool CBD and advised them of our vacancy.
