This week we said a farewell to a truly special member of the Mpower family, Penny as she retires after an incredible 22 years of dedicated service.
For more than two decades, Penny has made a profound difference in the lives of children, families, and colleagues across our community. Starting as an Early Childhood Intervention Worker and later becoming our Coordinator of Client Engagement, she brought her Occupational Therapy expertise, compassion, and unwavering commitment to supporting others in every role she held.
Throughout her time at Mpower, Penny has been a trusted guide for families, helping them navigate challenges with kindness, patience and understanding. Many will remember her as the calm, reassuring presence at the other end of the phone, always ready to listen and provide support when it was needed most.
One of Penny's many lasting contributions was her leadership during the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Working alongside colleagues, she helped develop resources and deliver information sessions throughout our region, empowering countless families to confidently navigate a time of significant change.
While Penny's achievements are many, it is her warmth, generosity, professionalism, and genuine care for people that have left the greatest impact. Her legacy can be seen in the families she supported, the children whose lives she helped improve, and the colleagues she mentored along the way.
Penny, thank you for your dedication, your compassion, and the countless contributions you have made to Mpower and our community over the past 22 years. You have made a lasting difference, and your influence will be felt for many years to come.
As you begin this exciting new chapter, we wish you every happiness, good health, and plenty of time to enjoy family, friends, travel and all the things you love.
Congratulations on an exceptional career and a well-deserved retirement. You will be greatly missed and always remain a valued part of the Mpower family.

Are you an aspiring board director aged between 25 and 40 and based in South West Victoria?
We’ve partnered with South West TAFE, South West Healthcare and Brophy Family & Youth Services to offer The Observership Program. This initiative provides governance training and practical experience in not-for-profit board leadership over 12 months.
You’ll receive training from the Australian Institute of Company Directors and The Ethics Centre, while also building your professional network across Victoria with other observers.
Applications for the 2027 Program close on 16 August. Find out more and apply here: https://observership.com.au/south-west-region-candidate-information-webpage/?
Background information
The Observership Program facilitates the involvement of young, talented and energetic people in a structured experience on non-profit and government-appointed Boards.
Each Observer is paired with an organisation for 12-months. During that time, Observers attend board/committee meetings as non-voting members and learn fundamental principles and functions of not-for-profit boards, the roles of board members, financial processes and other governance priorities.
Observers receive training for not-for-profit directors delivered by AICD and The Ethics Centre as well as networking opportunities with fellow and former participants in the Program.
The Program provides first-hand exposure to the role of the board, its decision-making and operations as well as targeted training and mentorship designed to give Observers important skills to bring to the boardroom.
Applicants need to:
Be based in the South West Region of Victoria
Be aged between 25 and 45 years old
Be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
Have either no prior board experience or little or no formal governance training.
Have capacity and support to attend all board meetings and 10+ training sessions throughout 2027.
Apply by Sunday 16 August 2026. Application link for South West Observers: https://www.observership.com.au/south-west-region-candidate-information-webpage/

Our Kidz in the Community (KitC) adventure to Budj Bim was a fantastic day of exploration, discovery, and connection with nature. With two participants supported by one dedicated staff member, the group enjoyed exploring the fascinating lava caves at Byaduk and taking in the natural beauty of Budj Bim National Park. Throughout the day, participants were encouraged to ask questions, investigate their surroundings, and challenge themselves in a safe and supportive environment. The smaller group setting allowed for personalised support and meaningful engagement, helping participants build confidence, develop independence, and create lasting memories.
