A VERY SPECIAL FOSTER HOME NEEDED 💔
Over the weekend we met 4-year-old Sheba, this sweet lady has found herself in the pound due to no fault of her own, and she is absolutely terrified of the world. We are told that Sheba has always been a timid dog, but seeing this girl so shut down and beyond miserable has broken us. We actually asked ourselves the questions, is it fair to put her through this? Is she too broken? But we are holding onto hope that once out of the pound, and with a lot of time and love, she may come around.
Sheba’s response to most things is to run away, people in particular petrify her and right now she wants as much distance as possible. When Sheba doesn’t have an escape, she shuts down, she is not at all aggressive and tolerates handling and being on lead despite being extremely uncomfortable.
Sheba is unsure of other dogs, she has always lived with another dog and right now is very neutral around them at a distance, once again too scared to do too much. When a dog comes in too quickly, she flashes her teeth showing she needs space, not at all escalating. Once her space is respected and Sheba realises another dog is safe, she is content with them in her space and will even follow them around, she is much quicker to trust a dog than she is humans at this point in time.
We are looking for a very special foster home for this beautiful girl, someone who can commit to her ongoing rehabilitation long-term. Sheba is looking for a foster home that have experience working with scared dogs, she is going to need lots of time, patience and compassion whilst she works through her fear. An adult only home that is quiet with only 1 or 2 people would suit Sheba best right now, her world needs to be kept very small so she can learn to trust, and then gradually build exposure.
We feel that Sheba would do best with a calm, friendly male dog who can help her to come out of shell; an older dog that will give her space and be respectful would be ideal. We will not be placing Sheba into a home with an existing female dog, she hasn’t been tested with cats or other small pets, right now she is too petrified to give much of a reaction.
Sheba will need secure fencing and an undercover space outside where we can make a warm bed, our hope is that she comes inside to sleep, but it is unlikely she is ready for that just yet, everything is a bit of unknown until we get her out of the pound.
We know we are asking a lot for someone to take in such a broken dog, the truth is, we have a number of shutdown dogs still in our care; they are long-term projects and it means our foster homes are occupied longer than they would be normally, so now we need more help if we are to keep saving lives.
Please help us save Sheba, help us give her a second chance to be happy and realise the world isn’t so scary. If you meet ALL of the criteria listed above and can open up your heart and home to this petrified girl, please complete a foster application via our website www.gsrv.com.au
If you can’t foster, please share this post far and wide, 1 click of a button could be the difference in saving her life.
