Well done to the Warialda Rural Fire Brigade team who have been attending a heap of fires in the last few weeks. It has been a lot of hard work but I couldn't have been more proud of the skill and teamwork that they have shown in some very challenging situations. Their dedication to keeping our community safe is amazing and we are lucky to have them.

Today, AFAC News released the Bushfire Seasonal Outlook for Autumn. Hot and dry conditions over summer have increased dryness across much of NSW. With below average rainfall forecast for autumn, parts of central, southern and eastern NSW may face an increased risk of intense, fast-moving fires that are difficult to supress.

If you live, work or travel in bush fire-prone areas, now is the time to prepare. Review and discuss your bush fire survival plan and stay up to date with the latest warnings and advice.

A Total Fire Ban is in place today, Thursday 29 January, for the Northern Slopes. Hot, dry and windy conditions are forecast across parts of the state, increasing the fire danger.

Take action now. Know your fire risk and what you will do if fire threatens. Report all unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).

For more information on Total Fire Ban rules, visit the website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fdr

There are currently 61 bush and grass fires burning across NSW with six of these not yet contained.

More favourable conditions today will allow firefighters to strengthen containment lines, particularly the Brassknocker fire burning in the Bega Valley and Eurobodalla LGAs, on the Far South Coast.

Smoke from both the Brassknockers fire and fires burning in Victoria has settled over large parts of NSW as the southerly change moved through, resulting in a high number of calls to Triple Zero (000). Smoke is expected to clear throughout the day improving air quality.

Remember, only contact Triple Zero (000) if you see an unattended fire.

Stay up to date on fires across NSW through the Hazard Near Me app or via the website www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fnm.

Yes, it’s summer.
Yes, it gets hot.
No, that’s not the whole story. 😏

After a few Moderate fire danger days, we’re heading into widespread High Fire Danger over the coming days.

It will be hot, so hydrate, stay cool, prepare your property and make sure you discuss your bushfire plan.
