Last May, a dedicated crew of volunteers joined members of the Upper Yarra River Reserves Committee of Management to plant 3,000 tube stock plants along the boundary of Redwood Reserve. It was a special day, marked by a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country led by Wurundjeri Elder Uncle Perry Wandin.
Since then, the old fence has been removed, post holes filled, and mulch stockpiled โ all in preparation for this next stage.
๐ฑ Now itโs time to help these young plants thrive.
Weโre calling for volunteers to:
๐ฟ Spread mulch around established plants๐ฉโ๐พ๐ฟ๐งโ๐พ
๐ฟ Do some careful hand weeding where needed๐ฉโ๐พ๐ฟ๐งโ๐พ
Weeds were selectively sprayed in December, which cleared many, but a few hardy ones (and some newcomers!) remain โ so a small fork will come in handy.
What to bring:
โ Wheelbarrow
โ Shovel
โ Garden fork (if you have one)
โ Gloves, water bottle & sturdy footwear
Come along, lend a hand, and be part of regenerating this special place for the long term. Every wheelbarrow counts.
See you there!
