🚒 Small steps, safer homes, stronger communities! 🧯🧑‍🚒

A big thank you to Michelle Corling, one of our dedicated Disability Support Workers, for coordinating a Home Fire Safety Visit at one of our Supported Independent Living homes with the Mayfield East Fire Brigade.

Although the firefighters were called away to an emergency, residents had the opportunity to meet the team, learn valuable fire safety tips and discuss practical ways to reduce potential hazards at home.

🏡 The best part? Putting advice into action! Since the visit, one resident has started keeping their kettle on the kitchen bench, following a simple suggestion from one of the firefighters. A great example of how small changes can make a meaningful difference!

These visits help residents and staff build fire safety awareness while helping firefighters better understand the homes they may one day be called to assist.

A heartfelt thank you to Michelle and the Mayfield East Fire Brigade for helping make our homes safer and our community stronger. 💜

🤠 Steven was all smiles recently after meeting the lead singer of The Viper Creek Band during a visit to Huntlee Tavern as part of his 1:1 Community Supports program.

🎶From enjoying live music to making memorable connections, this outing was a fantastic example of how personalised supports can help people engage with their interests and be active in their community.

💙❤️ Feel Good Friday ❤️💙

What a week of community spirit!

While we'd like to congratulate the Sydney Roosters on their win, we're incredibly proud of the Newcastle Knights for making it to the NRL Grand Final and bringing so many people together along the way.

Across ConnectAbility, customers and team members got into the spirit with jerseys, face paint, artwork, handmade signs, plenty of cheering, and even a sausage sizzle as we celebrated our shared love of the game.

It's moments like these that remind us that community is about connection, belonging and creating memories together.

❤️💙 UP THE KNIGHTS! ❤️💙

After 25 years, the Newcastle Knights are back in the Grand Final, and what a way to get there! A 12 man team, plenty of grit and a whole lot of Newcastle spirit.

The excitement is already in full swing at ConnectAbility, with some of our SIL homes hosting their own semi-final watch parties last night who went all out to support their team. Blue and red streamers, team colours and plenty of Knights spirit filled the homes as our customers cheered the boys on! 🎉

We’ve even had Knights-themed parties complete with a Knights cake, and plenty of our customers love heading along to home games to support their team in person. 🎂

It’s pretty special to see just how much the Knights mean to the people we support and to the Newcastle community as a whole.

As a proud local Newcastle provider, ConnectAbility has been part of this community since 1992. So when Newcastle has something to celebrate, you better believe we’re celebrating right alongside you!

And a big congratulations to the Sydney Roosters on making the Grand Final too. 🐓👏

😀Last week we held our biggest Community Forum yet, with 7 customers, 6 Support Workers and 3 family members sharing updates, questions and having their voices heard.

We shared news on what’s happening across our services, new SIL Practice Standards and future builds.
But the most valuable part? Genuine conversation with the people at the heart of our supports.

💬 100% of respondents felt listened to and respected
☕ Our customers especially loved catching up with friends over morning tea!

NDIS reforms continue to impact participants, families and providers across the sector.
Last Sunday, ConnectAbility CEO David Carey joined 2HD's Tony Vidray to discuss what these changes mean in practice and the importance of ensuring people with disability continue to receive the supports they need.

With a strong commitment to advocacy and inclusion, David highlighted the importance of ensuring NDIS reforms don't disadvantage vulnerable community members and that people with disability continue to receive the supports they need.
