Youth voices matter in Tuggeranong

At our next Tuggeranong Community Council meeting on Tuesday 2 June 2026, we’ll be focusing on young people in our district.

The meeting will feature a presentation on the recent TCC Youth Forum, together with the results of the Youth Survey. These provide valuable insight into what young people are thinking about Tuggeranong — what they value, what concerns them, and what they would like to see improved.

We will also be joined by the Principal of a local high school, who will contribute to the discussion on how schools, community organisations and government can better listen to and work with young people.

Topics are expected to include youth engagement, student voice, local facilities, transport, community participation and how young people can have a stronger say in decisions affecting Tuggeranong.

The outcomes of the forum and survey will help inform TCC’s advocacy on youth issues and will be shared with schools, government agencies and elected representatives.

Everyone is welcome to attend and join the discussion.

❤️ Community safety + energy future in focus – May TCC Meeting

Tues 5 May 2026 commencing at 7:00pm at the Southern Cross Club Tuggeranong
39 Pitman St, Greenway and also on Zoom https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/LCMRnBA1TcO18xp-yBse6g

Join us at the Tuggeranong Community Council’s May meeting for two important local discussions — one that could save lives, and one that will shape how we power our homes into the future.

⚡ Sandra Fisk from StreetBeat**
Will introduce a program to install publicly accessible defibrillators (AEDs) across our suburbs.

Working with St John Ambulance Australia, and supported by GoodLoop Mutual and Bendigo Canberra Region Community Bank, this initiative aims to ensure rapid access to life-saving equipment during cardiac emergencies.

💬 Where should AEDs go in Tuggeranong?

⚡ Energy Update – What’s coming for gas and electricity?

TCC’s representative to the Evoenergy Consumer Reference Council will provide an update on:
• the Gas Network Plan 2026–31 (GN26)
• the start of consultation on the Electricity Network Plan 2029–34 (EN29)

This is a valuable opportunity to understand what these plans mean for households, costs, and the future of energy in the ACT — and how the community can have input.

Tuggeranong bus timetable updates from 7 April

Some key Tuggeranong bus routes are getting timetable updates from Tuesday 7 April, with further changes to school services from Term 2 (Monday 20 April).

These are small, targeted adjustments — not a full network redesign — aimed at improving reliability and helping buses run on time.

Routes affecting Tuggeranong include:
Rapid 4, 5, 6, 7, 10
Routes 56, 57, 58, 59, 66

Local school impacts:
- St Jude’s Primary (Route 66)
- Evelyn Scott School (Route 66 – PM bell time now later)
- Plus several northside colleges for students travelling across town

Woden Interchange update:
From 20 April, buses will move to the new Woden Interchange.
Timetables remain the same, but platform numbers will change — allow extra time during the first week.

Plan ahead using the MyWay+ app or the Transport Canberra journey planner.

Check updated timetables here:
https://www.transport.act.gov.au/

If you rely on these services — especially for school travel — it’s worth double-checking times before Term 2 starts.

Tuggeranong Community Council – April Community Meeting

April Community Meeting – Snowy Water Review Update
Tuesday 7 April 2026 · NEW START TIME 7:00 pm
Canberra Southern Cross Club Tuggeranong (and via Zoom)

Please note Tuggeranong Community Council meetings now commence at the earlier time of 7:00 pm.

Our April meeting will feature a presentation on the review of the Snowy Water Inquiry Outcomes Implementation Deed (SWIOID).
Andy Lowes, Program Manager at Watertrust Australia, will outline progress on the review and what it may mean for environmental water releases affecting the Snowy River system and the Upper Murrumbidgee River.
Following the presentation, members of the SWIOID review panel will provide brief comments and participate in a community Q&A:
• Terry Korodaj – President, Upper Murrumbidgee Catchment Network
• Siwan Lovett – Australian River Restoration Centre
• Antia Brademann – Upper Murrumbidgee Waterwatch / Upper Murrumbidgee Demonstration Reach
The review, announced by the Commonwealth Government in February 2025, is the first since the agreement was established in 2002.

This is an important opportunity for Tuggeranong residents to hear directly from those involved in the review and to ask questions about future environmental flows affecting our local river system.

➡️ All community members are welcome.

Please note: the previously advertised presentation by Senator David Pocock has been deferred.

🗓 Tuesday 3 February2026 | 🕢 7:30 PM
(and on Zoom)

The TCC Community Meetings are now at the Canberra Southern Cross Club Tuggeranong, Cnr Pitman &, Holwell St, Greenway.

🌱 A Healthy Environment Is a Human Right

Did you know the ACT now recognises a right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment under the Human Rights Act?

On Tuesday 3 February 2026, the ACT Human Rights Commission will join us at the monthly meeting of Tuggeranong Community Council to explain what this new right actually means — and how the community can use it.

Commissioner Penelope Mathew will speak about:
• how the new right to a healthy environment operates in the ACT
• what it means for government and the community
• how this right can be used and enforced in practice

The Commission is currently reviewing ACT laws that affect air quality, asking whether they adequately protect this new human right — and your awareness and involvement matter.

Come along, learn what’s changed, and find out how environmental protection and human rights now go hand in hand.

ADVICE: Bushfires - Namadgi National Park - Stay Informed

Update 6:24 PM Tuesday: All four bushfires burning in the Namadgi National Park have been set to ‘patrol’ status.

Patrol means the fire is almost extinguished, but firefighters will continue to monitor for hotspots or re-ignitions in the days ahead.

✅ Cotter Hut Ignition 1 - Patrol (Burnt area: 7.5ha)
✅ Bendora Dam Ignition - Patrol (Burnt area: 3.5 hectares)
✅ Cotter Hut Ignition 2 - Patrol (Burnt area: 0.2ha)
✅ Corin Dam Ignition - Patrol (Burnt area: 0.2ha)

The very remote location of the fires has required a highly specialised, multi-agency response.

More than 75 firefighters from the ACT Rural Fire Service and ACT Parks and Conservation Service (ACTPCS) tackled the difficult to access, steep, and arduous terrain deep in the Namadgi National Park.

Access to the Bendora Dam fire has been made possible with support from ACT State Emergency Service and ACTPCS boat operators.

Crews were able to enter the dam from an area with vehicle access, then travel to the banks closer to the fire ignition.

Firefighters on the ground have been supported by incident management specialists and logistics support staff.

A temporary helicopter re-refuelling base was established at Birrigai Outdoor School to maximise flight time.

There is no ongoing threat to the community from these incidents. 🔥 Well done to everyone involved!

———————-

Update 4:55 PM Monday - A fourth bushfire ignition has been detected in the Namadgi National Park, as well as a lightning strike that set a tree alight on private property off Point Hut Road.

🌟Better Broadband & a Better Lake 🌊
🗓 Tuesday 2 December 2025 | 🕢 7:30 PM
📍 Town Centre Vikings, Greenway (and on Zoom)
Join us for our final Community Meeting of the year as we dive into two big issues for Tuggeranong — faster broadband and a healthier lake.
⚡ Bringing a better NBN broadband experience to Tuggeranong
NBN Co and ServiceStream will take us through the major full-fibre upgrade now rolling out across the ACT. Learn what the shift from FTTN to FTTP means for your home, how survey and construction work will be carried out in local streets, what to expect with property access, and the timelines for our suburbs. A great chance to ask questions directly to the teams delivering the upgrade.
🌊 Developing a 10-year plan to restore Lake Tuggeranong
The ACT Healthy Waterways team will unpack why the lake has battled blue-green algal blooms for so long and what’s finally being done to fix it. They’ll outline the research, the pollution-reduction options being considered, and the proposed ten-year plan aimed at achieving a swimmable lake far more often. Hear how all of us — residents, businesses and government — can play a role in restoring the lake we love.
Come along in person or join us on Zoom. We’d love to see you there.
