Wangaratta High School hosted our second Tradies Toolbox Roadshow event, with a special focus on Women in Trades.

Our breakout session brought together female students interested in a career in the trades, along with those simply keen to hear some inspiring career journeys. The session featured an incredible panel of young women working and training in traditionally male-dominated industries:

πŸ‘©β€πŸ”§ Ella Iaria – Cabinet Maker
πŸ‘©β€πŸ”§ Lauren Stone – Heavy Diesel Mechanic
πŸ‘©β€πŸ”§ Lily McLean – Heavy Diesel Mechanic
πŸ‘©β€πŸ Emily Elliot Scrag - Engineer

They shared the realities of their journeys – from challenges and setbacks to the highlights and rewards of working in their chosen industries.

They were joined by representatives from AGA Into Work, GOTAFE, WorldSkills, Harnest Construction and Master Builders Victoria, providing students with a broader picture of the pathways, training and opportunities available.

And the message was clear – women are making their mark in trades and construction! πŸ’ͺ Employers are seeing the value women bring to their workplaces, including motivation, attention to detail, dedication and a willingness to learn.

A huge thank you to Master Builders Victoria, who also presented five students with steel-cap work boots on the day, helping remove one more barrier for young people looking to take their first steps into the trades.

Thank you to all our incredible industry and education partners who continue to help us connect young people with real career pathways and inspire the next generation of tradies.

1 hour, 23 industry partners, 8 pairs of steel-cap boots and 150 bacon & egg rolls later, that’s a wrap!

Our second Tradies Toolbox Roadshow event this morning hosted at Wangaratta High School was a great success!

A massive thank you to Wangaratta High School for having us, and to the trade businesses their partners, employees and apprentices, education and industry partners who came along to share their stories, answer questions and inspire the next generation of tradies.

But most importantly β€” meaningful connections, new ideas and plenty of future inspiration for young people across our region.

That’s what Tradies Toolbox is all about! πŸ™Œ

Thanks to everyone who helped make another fantastic morning happen. We’re already looking forward to the next stop - Benalla P-12 on August 27th!

Of course, none of this could happen without the support of our event partners: GOTAFE, Glenrowan Solar Farm, Headstart, Master Builders Victoria and AGA Into Work.

The first stop in our Tradies Toolbox Roadshow series has officially hit the road!

This week we visited Galen Catholic College as we kicked off our regional school roadshow, connecting young people with exciting career opportunities in the trades. Next up, we'll be at Wangaratta High School on 13 August, where we'll also be delivering a special Women in Trades session to encourage more young women to explore rewarding careers across the industry.

Through the Department of Education Victoria's School to Work Program, we're taking tradies, utes, trailers and an incredible team of education, training and industry partners directly into our regional schools. Together, we're helping build the future workforce by inspiring young people to pursue meaningful career pathways in the trades.

A huge thank you to the Lions Club of Wangaratta for cooking up a fantastic breakfast of bacon and egg rolls for the students, staff and tradies, a great way to start the day!

We're also incredibly grateful to our sponsors and supporters, Master Builders Victoria, who provided six lucky aspiring tradies with their very own pair of steel-cap work boots.

Our education and industry partners played a vital role throughout the morning:
πŸ”¨ GOTAFE staff showcased trade qualifications, School-Based Apprenticeships and VCE VM/VET Delivered to Secondary Students (VDSS) opportunities. Students also learned about the growing success of the WorldSkills competitions, where talented apprentices and trainees can test their skills on regional, national and even international stages.

πŸ”¨ AGA Into Work shared valuable advice on apprenticeships and traineeships, helping students understand the pathways into rewarding careers in our region's thriving trades sector.

We're also continuing to promote the 2026 Glenrowan Solar Farm $5,000 Scholarship, and sincerely thank them for their ongoing commitment to supporting local young people into trade careers.

This is just the beginning of our regional roadshow, and we're excited to continue connecting schools, industry and community to inspire the next generation of skilled tradespeople.
