Garden Update :
- A few weeks back, we held the garden's second Food Swap. There was an impressive spread of produce to swap, including enormous Queensland Blue pumpkins, spring onions, honeydew melons, pomegranates, silverbeet, kale, herbs, and hand-made wooden spoons. A big bag of fresh greens and pumpkins were also donated to Open Door Neighbourhood House. We ended the morning with a bonfire; the kids especially enjoyed roasting marshmallows.
- We have announced a series of free gardening workshops at the garden. If you are keen to learn more about growing your own food at home, you can find all the information and registration details here: https://forms.gle/DNVPCeUX2ybpLDNA9
- The Chicken Wranglers gave the chook pen a thorough clean-up.The deep litter was turned into a compost pile that will be used to enrich existing garden beds. Thank you wranglers!
- The kids' area also got a glow-up, with a new blackboard and mud kitchen installed. We've already seen lots of potion and soup making, and other creative concoctions.
- The garden paths were re-mulched and tidied thanks to the team from Corrections Beechworth, thank you!
- The Wang Night Shelter recently reopened its doors, and garden produce was donated to help volunteers cook warm nutritious meals.
- Drainage issues in the parking area were also fixed. (thank you RCoW!)
- Finally, the committee successfully secured additional grant funding to help bring future projects and improvements to the garden area. A big thank you to Gateway Health Into Our Hands Community Foundation Garry Nash & Co.
The garden will be open for its Working Bee this Sunday, 14 June at 10AM. We hope to see you there!
