Some people are not suicidal because they want to die.

Sometimes they are exhausted from carrying pain that feels impossible to explain. Sometimes they are overwhelmed by loss, trauma, loneliness, financial struggles, mental illness, or life circumstances that seem never-ending.

A recent report highlighted by CNN found that nearly 1.2 billion people worldwide were living with mental disorders in 2023, a number that has almost doubled since 1990.
Anxiety and depression were among the most common conditions affecting people globally.

Behind many smiles are silent battles.
Behind many "I'm okay" responses are struggles that nobody sees.
And behind many suicidal thoughts is often not a desire to die, but a desire for the pain to stop.

Mental health challenges are more common than many people realize, and they can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, profession, faith, or social status.

Let us choose compassion over judgment.
Let us listen more.
Let us check in on one another.
Let us create spaces where people feel safe enough to ask for help.

You never truly know what someone may be carrying.

People often say

"The first year is the hardest."

As if grief follows a schedule.

As if pain has an expiration date.

As if the heart simply decides

One day

To stop missing someone it loves.

But grief doesn't work that way.

It doesn't disappear

When the calendar changes.

It doesn't leave

After birthdays,

Holidays,

Or anniversaries have passed.

Instead,

It learns how to live beside us.

Quietly.

Patiently.

Becoming part of who we are.

Some days,

The ache feels distant.

A soft whisper

In the background of life.

And other days,

One memory,

One photograph,

Or one familiar song

Brings everything rushing back.

Not because we're failing to heal,

But because love never stopped existing.

The truth is,

Grief is love

With nowhere to go.

It is every "I miss you"

That still lives inside us.

Every conversation

We wish we could have.

Every hug

We wish we could feel again.

And every beautiful memory

We refuse to let fade.

Years may pass.

Hair may turn gray.

Life may continue moving forward.

But the people we love

Leave fingerprints on our hearts

That time can never erase.

So no,

Grief doesn't end

After the first year.

Because love doesn't end either.

It simply changes shape.

It becomes remembrance.

It becomes gratitude.

It becomes a quiet companion

Walking beside us

For the rest of our lives.

Forever grieving.

Forever loving.

Forever remembering.

And forever carrying them

It’s with great excitement and gratitude that we announce star Geelong Cats forward Shaun Mannagh has agreed to join Project 365 as our ambassador for the upcoming and inaugural SS+A Ovens and Murray Football Netball League Mental Health Round.💙

Before making it to the AFL, Shaun’s journey began at the North Albury FNC before joining the Lavington Panthers FNC helping shape the player and person he is today.

Shaun will be joining us throughout the Mental Health Round, including at Lavington on June 27 to watch his 2 old teams go head to head, before joining us on Sunday June 28 in Wangaratta for the “Walk’n’Talk” event, walking with us to the local derby Wang Rovers vs Wang Magpies.

Pete and Steve have already been busy visiting local clubs, selling the Project 365 message and selling our Project 365 beanies. All proceeds go back to the clubs in way of Mental Health First Aid Scholarships.
They will be at Lavington tonight, and other clubs in the lead up to the round. So come up and say G’day and buy you beanie to help secure MH education for your club.

Football Netball Clubs do so much more than develop players. They create connection, belonging and support when its needed most.

If you see the Project 365 guys over the coming weeks, and at the grounds during the round, come and grab a beanie, support a great cause and help us continue creating real mental health support within our football/netball communities.
