September (AKA SEXtember) is World S*xual and Reproductive Health Month! ๐ŸŽ‰

๐Ÿค” An STI, short for S*xually Transmitted Infection, is an infection passed from one person to another through s*xual contact. Fun fact; there are more than 20 types of STIs!

๐Ÿ‘ฏ STIs are mainly passed to another person through s*xual activity. There are 4 types of STIs; Viral, Bacterial, Parasitic, and Blood borne.

๐Ÿ’ช Using protection, getting tested regularly, and getting the right vaccines are the best ways to prevent STI transmissions. If you are at a higher risk of HIV, you can also consider taking medication before (PrEP) and after (PEP) s*x.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•S*xual health checks are a super normal part of a healthy s*x life. Testing usually involves a urine test, a swab, or in some cases a blood test. You can get tested at most GPs and s*xual health clinics.

๐Ÿ’Š Early treatment leads to the best health outcomes, so it's best to get checked regularly! All STIs can be either cured or managed through appropriate medical treatment.

๐Ÿšจ If you test positive for an STI, it's essential that you let your s*xual partner/s know, so that they can take action, too.

The S*xual and Reproductive Health Professionals at Clinic 35 at Gateway Health can support people of all genders with any s*xual and reproductive health questions in a confidential, respectful, and judgement-free space. To make an appointment:

Wear it Purple Day started as a grassroots movement to show LGBTQIASB+ young people that they have the right to feel safe, supported, and proud of who they are.

For the past 16 years, organisations, schools, and communities around Australia have come together to the recognise this date.

Whilst a lot has changed in those years, young LGBTQIASB+ people still experience bullying and discrimination. This is why it is still important to recognise this date and continue showing support and allyship where we can.

This years theme is "Colours of Courage", recognising the strength it takes to push for change. This strength comes from sharing the emotional load together as LGBTQIASB+ people and allies to the community. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ
