🌈 Why do we celebrate Pride in June?

On June 28, 1969, patrons of the Stonewall Inn in New York, a bar known as a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community, fought back against a police raid.

That act of resistance sparked days of protests and became the catalyst for the modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement. 💪

A year later, the first Pride march was held on that same date, and grew into the celebrations we all know of today!

More than 50 years on, Pride Month is still a time to celebrate how far we've come, honour those who fought for our rights, and recommit to the work still ahead. 🏳️‍🌈

Here in Wangaratta, that's exactly what the Pride Hub is about! A space where our community can come together, feel seen, and know they belong. Every single month of the year, not just June. 💜

From all of us at LINE Wangaratta, Happy Pride Month!
