What will your book of deeds say? | Khutbah by Sh. Yusuf Parker

In this khutbah, Sh. Yusuf Parker reminds us of the reality that our deeds are constantly being recorded.

The angels appointed to us record everything we do — our good deeds as well as our mistakes. Nothing is overlooked or forgotten. On the Day of Judgement, we will be presented with our book of deeds and told to read what has been recorded.

This is a powerful reminder to be conscious of our actions and to think carefully about what we are putting into our book. We should strive to increase our good deeds and ensure that they outweigh our bad deeds.

May Allah ﷻ make our scales heavy with good deeds, forgive our shortcomings, and grant us our books in our right hands on the Day of Judgement. Ameen. 🤲

Wishing everyone a blessed Jumuah.

A small reminder from today's Daily Adhkar:

La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah.

None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner.

These words are familiar to our tongues, yet our hearts can still drift.

The word ilah itself should make us stop and reflect. We may affirm Allah alone in worship, yet things of this dunya can slowly occupy more of our hearts than they should: wealth, status, approval, comfort, work, even our own desires.

Allah warns in Surah al-Jathiyah 45:23 about the one who takes his own desire as his god. This does not mean every attachment is shirk. It is a warning to examine what increasingly commands our heart, our choices and our sense of direction.

Life is like walking a mountain trail. The scenery can be beautiful. We can enjoy it and be grateful for it. But the scenery is not the destination.

Sometimes we become so absorbed with what Allah has placed along the journey that we forget where the journey is taking us.

La ilaha illallah is therefore more than something we recite. It is a continual return. A correction of direction.

May Allah keep our hearts attached to Him, protect us from being consumed by the dunya, and keep us mindful of our true destination.

This weekend, the Alhidayah Centre Madrasah boys at Sayyidina Omar Institute will spend the night in i‘tikaf, with time for worship, reflection, brotherhood and preparation for service.

The next morning, they will take part in our Homeless Run in Fremantle, putting khidmah into practice by serving those doing it tough.

Australia’s future workforce will increasingly be shaped by artificial intelligence.

For our young people, the challenge is not simply learning how to use AI. It is learning how to use it well, to think critically, solve problems, create value and prepare for a changing world of work.

Parents also need to understand this shift so we can guide our children with confidence, judgement and responsibility.

This school holiday period, Alhidayah Centre, Sayyidina Omar Institute and MOTECHWA are offering two practical community workshops.

Both sessions will focus on practical AI literacy, productive use, critical thinking, privacy, verification and responsible decision-making.

The aim is to help our families and young adults engage with AI as a tool for learning, work and contribution, while retaining human judgement and accountability.

All proceeds support Alhidayah Centre.

AI may assist our reasoning, but it cannot carry our amanah.

There’s something special about gathering before dawn, travelling together with good intentions and standing side by side for Fajr.

Join us this Sunday, 16 August for a community Fajr Drive from Hillarys Boat Harbour to Alhidayah Centre. 🚗

We’ll gather at 4:00am, depart at 4:25am sharp, and make our way to Alhidayah for Fajr, a short tazkirah and light refreshments.

Cars, 4WDs and motorcycles are all welcome.

Alhamdulillah, Beyond the Label concluded this morning at AlHidayah Centre.

The session brought our youth and parents into a reflective conversation on identity, belonging, peer pressure, and the unseen forces shaping the soul.

Feedback from participants was very positive. Many found the session beneficial, well structured, and deeply relevant to the challenges our young people face today.

A special appreciation to Sheikh Yusuf Parker, whose warmth, humour, and wisdom made the session both enjoyable and meaningful. The Great Master was truly at work.

May Allah place barakah in every reflection shared, every question raised, and every young heart seeking clarity in a confusing age.

Beyond the Label: The Architecture of the Halal Soul

Living in Perth is not always simple for our young people.

Every day, they move through choices that are not always obvious. The ingredients on supermarket shelves. The chemical names we do not recognise. The social media feeds that quietly shape how we think, desire, compare, and belong.

But halal living is not only about checking labels.

It is about protecting the heart.

This holiday session at Alhidayah Centre will not be a passive lecture. It will be a structured open mic seminar where our youth are invited to speak honestly, reflect deeply, and listen carefully.

Grounded in the spiritual wisdom of Imam Al-Ghazali’s Bidayatul Hidayah, we will explore how outward choices only become meaningful when the inner self is being purified.

Together, we will unpack:

🛒 The Chemistry of Confusion
Hidden ingredients and chemical terminology in everyday Australian retail products.

📱 The Algorithmic Feed
How digital consumption affects the clarity, focus, and purity of the mind.

👥 The Price of Belonging
Peer pressure, identity, and remaining grounded as Muslims in a secular environment.
