It's very sad to hear about the passing of Dolly Parton. Not only was she an icon of music and screen, but her Dolly Parton Imagination Library has enriched the lives of many children who are enrolled in this program. Walgett Shire Council Libraries are honoured to be a part of this wonderful initiative with 273 children currently enrolled who will receive a free book monthly from birth to 5 years.

Dolly Parton has died at 80. The singer-songwriter’s family confirmed she died peacefully at her home in Nashville.

Dolly wrote an estimated 3,000 songs across a seven-decade career, including Jolene, I Will Always Love You and Coat of Many Colours. She turned down an offer from Elvis Presley’s management team early in her career after they demanded half the publishing rights to I Will Always Love You.

Beyond music, she built the Dollywood theme park and ran the Imagination Library, a free-book program for children, for close to 30 years.

She showed up for herself and everyone else, on her own terms.

Rest easy, Dolly. 👢

The Fellowship provides up to $50,000 in funding, plus mentorship and networking opportunities, for one Australian ready to create change in rural and regional Australia.

Your project can come from any field or sector, but it must include an education element, whether through communities, workplaces, youth, students or other learning contexts.
