โค๏ธ Wear RRed Day at St Josephโs Walgett โค๏ธ
Today the staff of St Josephโs Walgett proudly wore red for RRed Day โ a day to raise awareness of the challenges faced by rural and remote students, advocate for equitable access to education, and celebrate the achievements of our rural and remote school communities.
As ICPA Federal President Louise Martin so beautifully puts it, wearing red symbolises the vast heart of our country, the red land that sustains us, and the families who live and learn in some of Australiaโs most remote communities.
Here in Walgett, that message is particularly meaningful.
The โEducate Australia Fairโ Bankwest study identified Walgett as the second most educationally disadvantaged area in NSW. RRed Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness that where a child lives can affects their access to educational opportunities โ and why continued advocacy for rural and remote education matters.
But today is also about celebrating everything that makes our school community so special. โค๏ธ
St Josephโs is a wonderfully diverse school, bringing together students, families and staff from many nationalities, cultures and backgrounds. We are proud of the strong Indigenous heritage, culture and connection to Country that forms such an important part of our school and the Walgett community.
We are also incredibly fortunate to belong to a dedicated, passionate and caring team of educators who know our children, know our families and understand the community in which they teach.
Statistics can measure disadvantage, but they cannot measure courage, resilience, achievement, belonging or heart.
For more than 50 years, ICPA has advocated for access to education for rural and remote children. RRed Day helps keep these important conversations going and reminds decision-makers and the wider community that rural and remote education must remain a priority.
Today, ICPA Walgett Branch proudly celebrates our St Josephโs team and the students, families and educators who make our rural and remote schools so special.
