Our last guest speaker at our regular dinner meeting, was our Rotary Exchange student, Helene Schmorl. Helene talked about her home town in Germany and her Rotary connection there. She also talked about how well she was received in Walcha particularly by her fellow school students. Helene was very postive and we enjoyed her presentation.

One of Walcha Central school’s students, Samantha Somerville, was the guest speaker at our last dinner meeting. Samantha delivered her speech as part of the Rotary Public Speaking competition. Her delivery was excellent and she focused on her autism and how schools can improve their recognition and assistance to students who have this disability. Sam was independently assessed on her delivery and she came up trumps. She received very positive acclamation from the Walcha Rotarians and their guests. Sam will now become eligible for the finals. Congratulations Samantha.

Next Tuesday night 11th August, 2026 is Census night. We have been asked by the local Census co-ordinators, to advise Walcha residents that local collectors will have identity badges, but they will be driving their own private vehicles. This is especially important for those in the rural communities who may become wary of unknown vehicles entering their properties.
