Wahroonga Waterways Landcare

Wahroonga Waterways Landcare Wahroonga Waterways Landcare is a volunteer program run by the Adventist church. We also work in the Lane Cove NP and on council lands.

It works primarily in an E2 Environmental Conservation Zone owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Wahroonga. In 2008, the San Hospital at Wahroonga was working through a redevelopment application. Concerns were raised by the community about the treatment of the nearby bushland. The Federal Government decided that the bushland was to be protected, due to its high conservation values, and the

area was zoned 'E2 Environmental Conservation'. In 2012, Adventist Aged Care secured the tender to manage the bush. The bush management team quickly realised that the community should be engaged with the bush, and established Wahroonga Waterways Landcare. Ten years later, the group is still working hard to restore the bushland around Coups Creek. Its educational tours and lessons for students and the local community have proven to be very popular. With the community's help, Wahroonga Waterways Landcare has been able to develop project plans to tackle degraded areas of the bush.

Landcarers! Tuesdays are our official volunteer day. If you'd like to join in with our Sydney Turpentine Ironbark Forest regeneration project, or just want more information, send us a message and let us know.

Volunteers meet at 8.45 am each Tuesday. We meet at the nursery located at the far eastern end of the car park behind 148 Fox Valley Rd. To gain access from 8.40 am push the grey button at the boom gate. If you would like to arrive earlier give Jayden a ring on 0416372611 and he will let you in.

All welcome!

NB: we are not working with volunteers on rainy days at the moment due to limited space in the nursery and social distancing requirements.

If you would like to be involved but are unavailable at this time, please send us a message, we work on site Monday to Friday and will happily accommodate you on any day.

We arrived on site yesterday to find the Centella asiatica with these cute little droplets on their outside edges. It is amazing the way that the microscopic structures within the leaves cause the water to bead in this way.
